Thought Hunter Bell was going to run Werro down at the end there, nice surge by Werro in that final 30m. They both should be in medal contention at worlds.
I feel like I'd never heard of Werro before last week, but that's because the women's 800 has been about Athing and now Keely for so long. Where did she come from? That was impressive to hold off Hunter Bell
Great (and brave) run by Werro. She got an assist from Wiley (legally and smartly) blocking a sneaky pass attempt from Hunter-Bell. That is where Hunter-Bell will run into issues. She puts herself in rough positions due to her extreme patience.
Everyone is acting like Fisher's strategy was dumb as can be, but he lost by an inch! He was this close to winning, and then no one would have bat an eye at his strategy. His strategy was enough to dispatch Mehary, Almgren, et al. Just not quite enough for Gressier (who saw that coming?).
I am not at all convinced that had he gone with 220 to go he would have won, there are just as many instances of someone going too early and then someone else who was more patient overtakes them at the end. It's a toss up.
The only criticism I can understand is that he somehow let in Gressier and Mehary on his inside which pushed him out pretty wide. But again, it's a difficult game to stay on the inside but also not get boxed in. Much easier said than done.

How can it not be dumb AF?
Make Gressier run the long way around him by blocking the inside, Gressier needed the inside to win.
Fisher was in a great place with 400 to go but stayed on Mills shoulder instead of taking the lead on the backstretch. Almgren saw the opportunity and took the lead, forcing Fisher extra wide

No, it was bad strategy.
He has massively faster ability and put himself in a situation where he had to outkick these guys in a slow race.
She’s been around for a while but never wins or is consistent - she’s also young.. Has shown signs of brilliance and she’s strong. I’m pleased there’s a bit more competition at the top of the 800m.
GHB was not in a great position coming round the bend and that may have cost her. Also left it too late to unleash her kick. However, you can’t argue with a PB.
I thought the Worlds may be boring for W800m but there will be a scrap for the medals behind Keely and it could get tactical!
Fisher can't let these races go slow. Living life on repeat watching his races go slow then getting out kicked. Meanwhile he still has the WL in both the 3k/5k
The tactics he "practiced" in jogfest GST races aren't really working out for him in real races.
I called it months ago that he should get in some reps and experience actually winding up those races hard in a competitive setting.
