I hope Cooper doesn’t turn pro early. He’s got the talent (obviously) so no need to rush development. He will have a longer career if he takes the NCAA route.
He basically is a pro. he's two years away from NCAA. should he go in that direction so he can get beat up for the sake of team points?
Maybe if he was a sr, you say do one year of NCAA. He's too far along with too little much time to go.
Maybe he can figure out that Bryce Harper route. Harper left high school after his soph year, got his GED, and went to college to play ball.
Either he is a Jim Ryan level talent or an extremely talented runner with a great doctor - I mean I'm not sure what drugs will make a 16 year run 1:42.
no amount of drugs is going to give a 16 year old 46 open/45 relay speed. just flat out talent
Look, I obviously don't think Luktenhaus is doping, but why make obviously false statements? Drugs/steroids/synthentic T would hypothetically have a HUGE impact on a 16y/o's raw speed.
This kid might actually set the world record… holy sh*t
Amazing talent. Imagine being 16 years old and knowing your main job is to get 1.3 seconds faster before you retire to become the 800m world record holder.
Bryce has to be wondering WTF just happened to the US men’s 800m landscape in the last year. Hoey appeared out of nowhere, Brazier is back from the shadow realm, and a high schooler just took 2nd in 1:42
Haha “shadow realm.” Hoppel did look stunned at running 1:42 and being beaten by a 16 year old kid.
I was on my rest day on a long walk and realized USAs was on so I checked the results and was like “oh, Hoppel, Brazier, and Hoey got on the team right?” And then I saw that COOPER LUTKENHAUS RAN 1:42 AND BRAZIER WON AND I DONT EVEN KNOW WHATS HAPPENING TO THIS SPORT IT DOESNT MAKE ANY FCKING SENSE AND HOEY DIDNT EVEN MAKE THE TEAM

Coop (why not?) closed in 12.48! Only Brazier was within a second of that (.64 slower).
Still trying to grapple with the magnitude of his accomplishment. Granville’s 1:46.45 800 record stood for 29 years. Cooper just beat it by more than 4 seconds. As a sophomore. Truly Jim Ryun-esque. Just so hard to put it in any sort of perspective.
Will Claye 17.09 in the triple currently top 3, great result for him.
WPV: Currently Moon, Morris, and then the Moll sisters in 3 and 4, all jumping the same height with no one else left. Does the US have 4 in this event? Forget how the 4th spot works, anyone know?
No shade but sort of happy Josh didn’t make the team. He’s been going too hard for too long. He went out too hard and had nothing left.
Colin DFL. But I seriously think in a few years he will be a big contender in the 800-1500, eventually 5000.
I think these guys are more likely medalists, shocking as it might be to say. Hoey in a 2 big Q semi scares me. Can easily see something like today where he gets it wrong from the front. Brandon Miller meanwhile, was a disaster tactically per usual. He had a questionable cut-in on Sahlmam he got away with. On the backstretch of a race out in 49 he moved out inexplicably and got double-passed. So bad.
That "disaster" did get him a 1:43.14 PR today, US #8 performer all time (7th before today was 1:43.20 by Mark Everett but Lutkenhaus bumps him down). He was out of the medals by 0.65. How much could he have gained by running perfectly? I have no idea but it seems like a hard gap to bridge.
52.65 from Muhammad, right after a 16 year old runs 1:42, Muhammad shows she's still got it at age 35. Incredible way to cap off her career if this is her last season (although she doesn't need to quit lol) -- As US champ once again.
awesome to see the our gold medal stars from doha, Donovan and Dalilah, have big come back wins dealing with injuries at USAs today
Gutsy running there by Caleb Dean. He was ahead of Rai through hurdle 6! Looked like he was going to fade at the end but he held on. Glad to see him make the team.
