Why are you hatewatching and hateposting about this? Stop.
It's sad how many people struggle so much with their mental health here. This person will never be happy with anything track does. They live for opportunities like this.
Anyway, crazy to think Sydney in April is still crushing people lol easy money for her.
you have an issue with suggesting a split screen for those situations? It's one suggestion of about 1000 in hoping they can build on what they're doing. There are a lot of gaps with the production right now that are just stifling for something that is attempting to grow the sport.
There is nothing to reinvent here, GST is trying to turn track and field into something it’s not.
genuinely bummed that amazing athletes like fisher Hocker nuguse signed for the season, it’s starting to look like a really bad use of their prime years
Fisher is a professional track athlete who just earned $100k in one weekend. That’s a good use of his prime.
Imagine if we had a $100k prize purse and invited the top 8 from the Olympic 5k final with nice appearance fees. Now imagine if we had that four times per year. Wouldn't that be way more fun than this doubling crap, and an even better use of his prime?
We will be recording our normal weekly podcast tonight at 10 pm ET tonight. We've decided to do it live. So check back for the links or go to our x/youtube.

I'm not a fan of the doubling either. You can read my proposal for how to improve GST here:
We had two great races where the doubling was really cool. The women’s 200/400 group where Gabby Thomas ran a surprising 400 for 2nd and Wanyonyi’s win in the 1500.
if it’s about money that build a competitor to Diamond league with better prize money, huge bonuses for world records etc. that will attract athletes.
but there is so much nonsense here it’s just so hard to see past: doubling, the weird “times don’t matter at all” stuff, no splits no results in the site, forcing athletes to run off events. Why ??
why do I want to watch 110m hurdlers run high school times in the 100 ? Why link two events together who someone can just win one event and jog the other and still win the whole thing
I am a huge Track fan, love diamond leave and wc and I have no idea what I just watched but it was not exiting.
im Not sure who they are trying to attract to these events but if you leave behind die hard track fans I think you will fail.
Just noticed the wind reading for the 800 results is -7.1. Obviously wind readings don’t belong in 800s and they had that at their backs half the time, but fair to assume it was really damn windy.
Weekend had its flaws but format shows some promise.
Need to figure out how to get everyone going for the 2nd race fully in the longer distances though. Can't have people racing for 2nd and 3rd.
I loved it. The scoring across two races adds a totally new dimension. If Teare goes with Gebrhiwet, then Fisher's strategy changes and he has to go with too. Next Slam, Gebrhiwet will probably push race 1, and Fisher will go with him. It's just this first Slam where the tactics shook out this way, and now things will evolve. That's the point - it's interesting and unpredictable.
1500 guys will benefit from the 800 being first. Because then, in the 1500 on day two, they can run hard to try to make sure a guy like Wanyonyi isn't there. Would be sweet if Wanyonyi was a racer not a challenger.
overall this was a pretty good debut. i, expert judge here, give it a B+. the crowd/venue were pretty big drawbacks, some minor technical difficulties, and honestly prob too broad/long of programming (3 3 hour windows is a lot to fill).
but there were some good races and the clear $$ incentives makes racing much more interesting. especially when the amounts actually matter to the athletes vs diamond league.
honestly they probably should just do one day / one race and really tighten up the production. either way i wish them much success

Disagree with the first part, agree with the second. Because to avoid what you said in the second sentence you need to change the format.
One thing I immediately thought of if they want to stick to the two races counting towards the winning of the "event" - combine the times.
Lets look at that 3000/5000 group. Today Fisher would have had no choice but to go with Hagos. He was only 1.06 seconds ahead in the 5000m but was fine to finish 12.30 seconds behind him in the 3000? No way - that is BS. Imagine if Hagos knew he had to make up 1.06 seconds and Grant had to defend it. Because then Fisher has to give max effort because if he didn't, HG could even catch him napping in the final 50m and beat him. In that case Grant is really forced to run to win - the entire point of your league.
Then you have something cool. Not only that if you want to talk viewer engagement, if you were able to represent that in real time (of course they can) as they were racing it would be incredible.
The problem is, someone would need to admit that the concept is flawed and that the clock does matter. Ironically by introducing the clock as something meaningful you actually improve your spirit of racing and competition. Sadly, I don't see that happening and this situation will happen in each and every slam across these SD/LD events.
I’m a huge track fan. However, I not likely to spend 9 hours watching GST over a weekend next month. At a minimum they need to condense TV window to 2 hours per session. My other take away - with the money grab - I felt like I was watching a TV gameshow.
