on reflexively doubting trump made his negative comments on US soldiers, they actually line up with his general life arc and presidential approach. he said they are "losers" and "suckers." he avoided service personally. and his general foreign policy approach has been to retreat from shooting war conflicts (afghanistan), get out of alliances or situations where we might be roped in to fight by others (ukraine, nato), and shift to the odd thing with drones or cruise missiles from well offshore where your risk is more terrorist blowback later on, than any immediate shootup with boots on the ground.
this is actually what some of you wanted and it reflects a desire to not spend our taxes or get people killed over wars abroad. and one crude basis for that would be the idea that americans dying someplace abroad are "suckers."
it lines up. you're spinning.
you can say he thinks highly of them in some scripted display but then his whole concept, budget or not, is that they not be used. and that we are suckers if we use them way far abroad.
he wants to bluff and bluff and hope people give him peace treaties and greenland. putin is not some rinky dink country. putin is not going to respond to hollow talk.
i mean if you read the whole story, vance apparently voted no on even this isolated houthi stuff, arguing it's more europe's problem how smoothly suez runs. they very narrowly define our interests and think we're suckers to use our military otherwise.
it all adds up. sorry.
