Curious to what everyone thought of the course and conditions? Thought breeze kept things a little cooler than they might have been, but heard some guys were struggling with the heat. It was a great course for spectating at least
Course was fine. The woodchips with rocks were weird and a couple sharp turns that you could gap people if you planned. The heat really hurt some people and the meet hosts seemed sadly unprepared for that. The parking was a mess and some women's teams were stuck waiting to get in.
UWLax is fast because it's an affordable in-state school with almost no academic standards in a state with no D2.
They have advantages for sure, but I can guarantee the standards to get accepted into UW-LaCrosse are higher than most private schools, including Wartburg (who throws money at any decent athlete to get them to attend).
Feel as if the first turn impacted a lot of teams, forcing the whole race to get out in about a 62 second 400, and obviously leading to some falls. After that the course was great, particularly last hill made for great drama
I'm sure the first 400m was even faster than 62 seconds for many. According to Strava, Leblond was a 55, Tassey was a 56, and many others who wore a watch were under 60 seconds. As a spectator, you could tell that the fast start (and hot weather) killed many runners.

Cool, if you read that report, you’d also see this stat:
UW-LaCrosse ACT scores: 50% of applicants between 24-28
Wartburg ACT scores: 50% of applicants between 21-27
Google was also nice enough to add that the 25% percentile (the minimum recommended applicant) had UWLAX at least 22, Wartburg at 19.
It should also be noted LaCrosse isn’t desperate for enrollment to keep the doors open like Private schools are these days. So poorer students that have no chance at getting into a school like LAX will not apply in the first place, and private schools will get more low-end applicants that they can reject, lowering their acceptance rate.
What happened to wartburg at nationals? It seemed that there 6th man didn’t show up to race. There 5th man Tyler Schermerhorn looked very well until the last 1k he dropped 200 places. Did he hit a wall, injuries, or sick?? It seems he has a track record of not doing so well at XC Nationals. Meanwhile their 7th man Solomon Zaugg finished as there 5th man with an average performance. Other than those 3, wartburg had very solid performance's. As they graduate most of there top runners it looks like they will have to develop some of there younger runners to take place.

Even after Wartburg "throws money" at recruits, they're still more expensive than La Crosse. These threads are stupid. LAX is a D1 mid major in D3's clothing...have you been there? They should win everything every year.
What happened to Wartburg at Nationals seems to be that everything was going perfect until it wasn't. Wartburg's top 4 were fantastic in 10th, 13th, 18th, and 37th. If Schermerhorn finishes the race where he was at 7k, Wartburg goes 10th, 13th, 18th, 36th, and 38th. 5 All-Americans... that wins, right? Nope, La Crosse still would have won with a score of 83 to 91. Hats off to La Crosse for having such an insane top 4 and still being able to win without a great 5 man, even if Wartburg had 5 All-Americans (yes, I know, hypothetically).

I totally agree LaCrosse has every advantage possible, and basically has a been a major underachieving program until the last couple years and should podium every year.
But the original argument was that LaCrosse was a terrible school academically, when in fact they're much higher ranked than most schools in the region, so when you combine that with their facilities, location, price, full staffing, and free advertising with the state track meet, it's a powerhouse that even the other Wisconsin public schools can't match.
Getting back on price, you also have to consider each market. Wartburg is located in an area with mostly private schools (except for D1s), so you can nab that kid that isn't a high end d1 recruit who is also conditioned to pay more. And if you live in Iowa what are spending your money on anyway...it's Iowa, you have $$ to burn for a private education. Wisconsin families have all their money tied up in Packers "stock."

Honestly, I’m impressed with SUNY Geneseo. It’s another public school that isn’t particularly strong academically, but unlike LaCrosse, its athletic facilities are rough. From what I can see on Google Maps, the track looks worn down, and they don’t appear they have an indoor facility at all. I'm surprised they can even compete at the top level of D3. Geneseo seems to be the only nationally relevant public school in D3 outside of the WIAC.
Metro needs to be dissolved. They do not deserve an auto team spot and 7 individuals. Maybe spilt it between the Mideast and Niagara regions.
Great idea, sprinkle a majority of them into the Niagara region and then they could rename it to something more fitting. The "Atlantic Region" has a nice ring to it.
