Hanne Thomson 3200 sombrero Heat winner in 10:21. Tyler Dalliak won the invitational mile in meet of champions in 4:10.62 with Griffin Kushen finishing right behind him in 4:10.65
It’s not even the sombrero heat yet and we got 6 runners under 9:20. Jackson Stream of Vacaville leading the race in 9:11 and Connor Bilodeu of Granite Bay right behind (just a sophomore) in 9:11.
Lowkey this years meet of champions 3200 was lowk disappointing. Fastest 3200 was 9:00 by Paul Tranquilla from Venice. Grant Miller in 9:03. Luke Sanders 9:04. Zion Ortiz 9:04. Honestly I was expecting some sub 4:10s and sub 9s but still are some pretty crazy results regardless

people were saying earlier they thought it would be weaker this year
I think part of that is because Dublin was on the same day this year… usually Dublin manages to pull schools from the central section (like Matilda Torres and in past years, Foothill Tech and San Luis Obispo have pulled up- hell before COVID shut everything down, Great Oak was supposed to make an appearance). It’s definitely an inconvenience that two big invitationals just happened to be on the same day. Usually, a lot of NorCal schools and individuals pull up to Meet of Champions
Moc moved from Azusa to Arroyo. Azusa is a special track, feels smaller, more fanfare, one side for the stadium. Just better experience. Arroyo is more spread out and didn't have the same atmosphere.

I was surprised when Kushen and Lesher dropped from the 3200 at Azusa for the mile
I think it just lacked the top end talent for the elite races. If Noonan had run the mile, and Turk the 3200, you might have seen faster times in those races. The elite 800m had great times because it had Morales take the pace out real quick.
As for the other races, looking athletic.net it was a massive PR fest. The weather was even more perfect all day than Arcadia typically is (Arcadia usually gets windy in the afternoon, and sometimes warm). Note that Arcadia and Arroyo HS's are only 3.3 miles apart.
will there be any big meets next week for the 3200
For the southern section, The Arcadia Distance Classic (not to be confused with the Arcadia Invitational) is next week. Last year it didn't draw as many top names like it has in the past. But I imagine it will attract some runners who are trying to qualify for the Invite or improve their seeding.
