The Huff Post? In August 2024? Really? Yikes. Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel.
But by bringing the thread to a new low, you've given me a perfect opportunity to share another sterling example of the sort of unbiased coverage the Huff Post - and much of the supposedly "liberal" MSM - haave given to this particular sports controversy in the past few days.
Be forewarned, however, that you better have smelling salts on hand and a fainting couch close by because the Huff Post story I’m about to share and link to focuses on a heinous aspect of the story that many will find hard to read about without recoiling in shock and horror, then breaking down in a flood of tears - namely the “misgendering” of an adult male athlete competing in women’s Olympic sports.
Even worse, the misgendering that the Huff Post reports on like it’s the crime of the century was committed by another public figure who happens to be female - and who has form for speaking up to defend women’s hard-won rights to fairness and safety in sports and other realms of life.
Yes, I mean the evil uppity mouthy woman from the UK who fancies herself to be some kind of writer, JK Rowling. The Huff Post headline:
The "Harry Potter" author repeatedly referred to Algerian boxer Imane Khelif as a man, stubbornly ignoring the fact the athlete is a cis woman.
The horror, the horror!
How dare JK Rowling - or any other woman - have the audacity to recognize and publicly state the sex of a male athlete competing in women’s boxing at the Olympics. And in 2024 no less. Smh.
JK Rowlings tweeted about this boxer more than a dozen times. She is completely silent about a convicted child rapist. What an exemplary defender of women!

Alexa, define false dichotomy. There are no sane people arguing that it's great that there's a child rapist at the Olympics. The story is very well covered in all news outlets and the guy is quite rightly getting booed viciously at every match he plays.
However, for some god forsaken reason about half of the world population are loudly proclaiming that a man beating up one woman after another at the Olympics is 'good actually' and those uppity women who oppose it need to sit down and shut up. News outlets and the IOC are desperately trying to gaslight everyone into believing that these are just 'two normal females', nothing to see here. The evidence for this, they state, is their passports. Meanwhile, reality goes on being reality. So you see, Rowling's voice is needed far more for the latter.

Wow. Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel and then some!
The other person I was responding at least had the enterprise to find and link to a Huff Post piece. That set the bar low enough in my view. But obviously not in your view. Coz here you are sharing a link to a random X/Twitter post that throws shade, finger-wags and tut-tuts at JK Rowling for tweeting about topics that the Harry Potter author herself chooses to speak about.
How dare JK Rowling mouth off on social media about matters she wants to talk about instead of confining her remarks to areas that other people like you would prefer she focus on instead.
On LRC, you’ve often used the same exact tactic to try to shame me for speaking out against male inclusion - or intrusion, rather - in female sports. If I were a real feminist, you’ve told me, I’d be spending my time concentrating on the matters that in your opinion are the only ones that genuine bona fide real feminist women should care and speak up about - and I’d leave the task of deciding who gets to participate in female sports and use female spaces entirely up to men like you.

Same old logic-deficited chowderheadism. You are no feminist. You are being accused of being obsessed only with attacking trans folk, and absolutely nothing else. That makes you squarely a transphobe.

There are no transgender people in the Olympics. That was ruled out two years ago. So this whole story is BS! Maybe Let's Run will stop with the propaganda.
For the Paris 2024 Olympics, the new guidelines require transgender women to have completed their transition before the age of 12 to be eligible to compete in the women's category. This rule is intended to prevent any perceived unfair advantages that might arise from undergoing male puberty.
In addition, at least 10 Olympic sports have restricted the participation of transgender athletes. These include sports like athletics, cycling, swimming, rugby, rowing, and boxing.
So according to the rules if there was a trans person they would have had to transition before the age of 12 and not went through male puberty.
Why don't Lets Run get there fing facts straight before they start spreading BS!
There is such a hatred of trans people I guess they just got bored the last few months not being able to talk about trans people!
Letsrun why do you get some facts before you start these threads!
You’re the one who’s talking bollox and spreading propaganda. Your post is so full of misinformation it's risible.
The IOC no longer sets, maintains or oversees standards for eligibility in women’s events at the Olympics. Under a new policy it announced in 2021 after the end of the Tokyo Games, the IOC said it was going to let the governing bodies of each sport set their own eligibility standards.
But in the particular case of boxing at the Paris Olympics, the IOC itself is in charge.
Due to allegations of corruption totally unrelated to the current brouhaha over the two fighters reported to be XY competing in women’s boxing, the IOC decided that the usual governing body for boxing - the International Boxing Association or IBA - shouldn't be in charge of Olympic boxing for the 2024 Games.
Instead, boxing at this year's Olympics are under governance of an ad-hoc unit of the IOC that the IOC developed just for this year's Games called the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit.
Unfortunately, the rules and regulations issued by the Paris Boxing Unit don't have any meaningful eligibility standards for participation in the women's category.
To be eligible to compete in women’s boxing at the 2024 Paris Olympics, all an athlete has to do is:
1) present a passport which says the athlete’s sex is female;
2 submit statement saying "I'm not pregnant" (or words to that effect) by submitting an electronic document called "the Non-Pregnancy Declaration Form" before each bout;
3) meet the general medical standards that boxers of both sexes have to meet - such as appearing to be good health without any open wounds and with a normal gait, in other words not showing signs of being "punch drunk."
This week, IOC officials have said verbally and in written statements that the two boxers reported to be male fighting in women’s matches at the Paris Olympics are “complying with the competition eligibility rules. They are women in their passports and it is stated that is the case, that they are female.”
I'll provide links to the the rules and regulations issued by the Paris Boxing Unit in a separate post.
Nailed it. This has always been about the IOC gaffe on this event. It has been well known in the boxing community of Khelif & Lin’s sketchy background. I think first disqualification was in ‘22 and then again in ‘23 that pretty much ended their careers in women’s boxing. Neither protested because it was already known by most organizers and then I think it was the Washington Post that wrote a piece detailing the DNA test on both. I’m certain neither fighter was expecting to be fighting again until the IOC break from the IBA. This was always going to end bad. Nothing new here really.
BS. The IOC totally has the power to require and do sex testing. Particularly in he case of boxers at the Paris Games.
Due to allegations of corruption unrelated to the current brouhaha over the two apparently male fighters competing in women’s Olympic boxing, the IOC decided that the usual governing body for boxing - the International Boxing Association or IBA - shouldn't be in charge of boxing at/for the 2024 Games.
Instead, boxing at this year's Olympics are under governance of an ad-hoc unit of the IOC developed just for this year's Games called the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit.
Unfortunately, the IOC's Paris Boxing Unit and the overall IOC have failed, and refused, to set any meaningful eligibility standards for participation in women's boxing.
To be eligible to compete in women’s boxing at the 2024 Paris Olympics, all an athlete has to do is:
1) present a passport which says the athlete’s sex is female;
2) fill out, sign and submit an electronic document called "the Non-Pregnancy Declaration Form" before each bout;
3) meet the general medical standards that boxers of both sexes are held to - such as appearing to be in good health without any open wounds and with a normal gait, in other words not showing signs of being "punch drunk."
All this week, IOC officials have said verbally and in written statements again and again that the two reportedly male boxers being allowed to put up their dukes against female fighters in women’s matches at the Paris Olympics are “complying with the competition eligibility rules” solely because “they are women in their passports.”
IOC spokesmen have said that since the two apparently male DSD boxers’ passports state they are “Female” or “F,” then in the IOC’s view “they are female” - and it’s bad form and an objectionable affront for anyone to question that.
Earlier on this thread, I posted links to all the documents that the IOC has issued containing the Paris Box Unit’s rules and regulations for the 2024 Games.
So it's the Rio 800 all over again - except it's in boxing this time and the IOC has failed to ensure the sport involved is what it purports to be and protects the interests of women.
Yes. Unfortunately, this has been only a surprise to those mostly outside the boxing community. Khelif & Lin were presumed to be done with boxing after ‘22 & ‘23 disqualifications. This was always going to be a train wreck for the IOC as they didn’t see it coming in their haste with the IBA.
Men don't have uterus like this boxer does....You should be more upset there is a Dutch volleyball player who was in prison for raping a 12 year old when he was 19....He traveled multiple countries to have sex with her
If she really wanted to make a statement, she should have hung in there, rolled with the punches and given a gutsy performance. This was the cowards way out. If you’re going to lose, at least go down swinging, not quitting and crying.
Yeah that's where I'm with you and even on the side of the dsd athlete. It's like you 99 percent suspect the athlete kicking away from you is doping his ass off. You don't effing quit in the Olympics... you take the L or arse kicking and take it up with the ioc.

A bit of male on female violence apologism. She should have ignored the fact that his punching power was 162% more powerful than anything she'd experienced before and let him beat her up, risking permanent brain trauma? Wow.

Me: "Issues that are contested (men shouldn't punch women on live TV) get more engagement than issues where everyone is in agreement (child rapists are bad)".
You, a very dim lightbulb: "Durr, then how come noone is talking about how that child rapist is bad? Checkmate feminists."
Same old logic-deficited chowderheadism. You are no feminist. You are being accused of being obsessed only with attacking trans folk, and absolutely nothing else. That makes you squarely a transphobe.
Oh no, chuckle used the the t word. How on earth will runragged get to sleep, knowing she's been accused of having an irrational fear of a made-up category that doesn't exist in reality. Next you'll be accusing me of being nonbinaryphobic and I'll never be able to face the public again.

If you don’t want brain damage, boxing is the wrong sport to be in. By the way, men’s skulls aren’t any thicker than women’s when getting hit in the head. It’s bad for everyone.
You fight the opponent put in front of you by the sanctioning body of your sport. If you won’t do that, then find a new sport.
