I've met her a few times, too, and her niceness to the age-group runners I worked with caused me to follow her career from quite a while ago.
What I've seen shows no particular reason for suspicion. She has had a huge improvement in race tactics. In prior years, she had a tendency to hang out well to the outside, to avoid problems in the pack. This time, she got out of the box immediately in the first 100m, then was on the rail, with the perfect pacer, and no fear of being stepped on from behind the rest of the way.
The draft alone is worth about 1 percent. In 230 seconds, that's 2.3 sec, right there. Yeah, she got draft in parts of other races, but never this good this far.
Getting out of lane 2 is worth nearly .5 sec per turn. (That's at a 4:00 pace, with a 1 meter-wide lane). In 7 turns, that's 3.5 sec. Not that she previously spent that far out all the time, but I've seen her hanging way out on the edge sometimes, practically in lane 3. That adds up. This time there was zero of it.
I have coached athletes who got big breakthrough races when all the stars aligned: temperature, wind, track surface, and the perfect set up for the race, with the perfect field. When that happens, confidence comes with it, and it all cascades into something special. Going back to Australia and family seems to have been good for her, too.
Does this mean I'm sure she's clean. Of course not. My interactions with her were brief and casual, and I won't vouch for anyone I don't personally know. But I'm not seeing any reason for going after her this way.
