I don't think they know about him. Low key meet. Don't know if it's sanctioned. I do know that he can't compete at the National Sr Games national meet. They specifically mention no suspended athlete can compete. Anyone going to rat him out to USADA? Speaking of, they had another bust a few days ago. Loretta Woodward-Turner, W70 sprinter. Folks, it's not worth it!
If I found out my opponent in beer league softball was on TRT, I can tell you I wouldn’t care. Few people would.
Do you want to drug test the over-60 men’s church softball league? Probably not. Why? Because it just isn’t worth the time and money. You don’t care that much. Neither does anyone else.
You get my point - there is a level of competition that we don’t drug test, or even rigidly enforce the rules. Because it doesn’t matter, and normal people don’t care.
Look, someday I’ll almost certainly get on TRT. It’s available, so why not? I won’t do it to go up a few places at whatever old folks competition, to win the zero prizes they offer. I’ll do it to feel better, look better, and continue to be active as I age. I don’t want to have to give up all organized competition for life, including beer league softball. It just seems a little legalistic to me.
If I were getting into organized mixed martial arts, I would embrace drug testing at any age and at every level of competition, then TRT use could put people in actual danger,. But 70 year olds jogging a 5k is not that important.
Well, I forgot all a about this thread, but I'm glad it came back up.
You're so focused on the trees, that you're not seeing the forest. You are totally correct that I don't care about TRT in beer league softball if there are no rules against it, but beer league softball does have some rules, and I would expect them to be followed, even if it was just beer league softball. Just as I would expect MLB players to follow the rules of their league, and just as I would expect runners of all ages and abilities to follow the rules.
Again, I don't care if you take TRT for yourself, and I don't care about beer league softball players taking it if there are no rules against it. The point isn't the TRT or steroids, it's the cheating.
Old guys "jogging" a 5k might not be important to you, but it is important to other people--especially those that have chosen to play by the rules.
Sorry, I just don’t see what the big deal is. I compete from time to time in a masters swimming. I suppose the chances are pretty good that I’ve been beaten by a man on TRT. I don’t waste a minute of my time worrying about it. There is no money at stake, no real glory, just challenging myself to try to be the best I can as I get older. My goals have nothing to do with where I finish, rather with my time, and the way I swim my race.
Middle aged runners obsessed with beating their local rival in the Turkey Trot who is probably on TRT, need to rethink their priorities at this point in their lives.

Some of us are "obsessed" with preserving rules for fair competition without being concerned about who may or may not be beating us at local races or national championships.
I can see that mentality for a high-level masters competition where they test - the use of any PEDs would be prohibited
But if it's a local race, such as your Turkey Trotts, New Year's Eve race, charity 5ks, etc, and there's no testing - participants can show up on TRT/HRT & there's nothing anyone can do about because it's not prohibited at these types of events.

Shouldn’t be prohibited? I mean, do you want to pay extra in race fees so that your Thanksgiving 5K can institute a testing program for the top finishers? I definitely would not. It would not be worth it to me.
No, I don't want to pay any other race fees for testing either as races are getting more expensive already.
But there are some guys that would pay extra fees - even a substantial amount - for testing. With these guys their whole life revolves around placing in their age group at local races (they train hard most of the year for that annual Turkey Trot 4 miler or 4th of July Firecracker 5k, etc). And when they don't, they say the guys that beat them were all on PEDs. Lol.

You may be right. Probably not a healthy obsession. I care a great deal if the second baseman for the Dodgers is on steroids and keeping his minor league replacement from playing. Before the annual turkey trot? Eh whatever.

I think the point is that he was busted at a national championship race, not a local Turkey Trot, so I don't see the comparison.
I was at the masters race but only age graded at 82. Had to cut back on miles. I always add 6 to my age grade and just hypothesize thats what I'd do with drugs. Beats enlarging my organs!

He's using the same alias and has entered himself in the Mike Fanelli Track Classic Masters Mile exhibition race. I mean it's an exhibition race that is for alumni/locals and helps raise money for the track program, so zero stakes and I don't see how banning him really matters. Heck if he's donating a bunch to SF State, let him run given the cuts that are forthcoming.
What I do think is lame is him using an alias to enter the meet. I mean you've run this race with the same people before, do you think they're not going to recognize you or believe your BS story that Jerry is your long lost twin brother?
At least Mario Fraioli is entered, he will break 5, and win the race. Some years, the 5:40 or so Qualls can run would win the race.

You can also add 4 points to pre-super shoe age graded marks.
They adjusted the age grade standards in 2020 by about a point and a few tenths for 2025. And there is nothing near a 4% improvement across the board due to shoes. However, there are a few outlier athletes who seem to be super-responders. My AG prs are still pre-super shoe.
As for RQ, he's already entered a couple of races this year and has been public about it.
