I think he meant they are inferior to Wiley but she lost to them yesterday. It is like in XC last fall when Valby lost to an inferior field.

How are they inferior to Wiley? They all had faster 1500m PR's except for Mu and we all know her credentials.

Addy is 19 and is still new to the sport. Hiltz is 28, McGee is 31. Mu is 21 and Johnson is 25.

Addy's issue wasn't her fitness, it was her tactics. She had good position then let everyone go by her. She had to run the fastest 400m in the field from 700m to 1100m - all in lane 2. That took too much energy and drained her kick.

Exactly. I mentioned that in a couple of other threads last night. Inexplicable tactics especially since they so closely resembled the tactics she bemoaned in the U20 world final last year. I was in disbelief as Wiley steadily surrendered the great forward position she had established early on the rail.

From that point I knew she wouldn't qualify. She's not good enough yet to overcome that type of error.

That "49 second 400m runner" was tying up coming down the homestretch and barely hanging on.

You're forgetting that "unaccomplished" Nikki Hiltz was a finalist in the 2019 World Championships.

You're forgetting that "unaccomplished" Nikki Hiltz was a finalist in the 2019 World Championships.

It wasn't an insult, just that others have accomplished more, and more recently. Clearly Hiltz can be top 10 in the world this year.

My point was that Wiley didn't face weak competition. She only lost to women who have qualified for a world championship or Olympic FINAL. And Wiley is only 19.

How many American collegiate females other than Athing Mu have run under 1:58? 0 until today. Wiley is a generational talent.
