Ah yes, that this threat to unencumbered white privilege and prestige has finally been done away with by right-wing racists in robes, including a self-hating black man who NEVER would have been on the bench were it not for affirmative action at several levels, will bring extra warmth to the dark hearts of every white minority-rule lover tonight.
In 2016, 48,000 whites, 52,8000 Asians, 4,800 Hispanics, and 2,200 blacks scored above 700 on the math SAT. Asians are 6 percent of the overall population but slightly less than half of its highly numerate population. pic.twitter.com/7BTrMbIWtx
What was done in the past was wrong. We can address that. But should we not be treating people equally now? How can that be wrong?
What was done wrong in the past was to keep everyone but white males out of a change to improve themselves (college). There is a reason things like affirmative action had to be introduced. Many, including several on the supreme court, would have separate drinking fountains if they could. And our Iran-type stripping of freedoms is heading that direction.
The opinion in SFFA was linked in the first post of the thread, but I’ll bet 90% of you commenting (including the OP) never read a word of it.
The elephant in the room is the enormous disparity in measured achievement between Asian-Americans and blacks. Attribute that to whatever you will, but in a society with a normal functioning brain, the successes of Asian-Americans in intellectual pursuits would be something to be celebrated and admired, rather than a confounding and inconvenient variable to be systemically adjusted for. But that is exactly what Harvard and UNC were doing. If you actually read the SFFA opinion, you can see Harvard and UNC long ago gave up any pretense of “increasing education through diversity” and other amorphous rationale for their deliberate and focused racial discrimination. From beginning to end in the multi-level admissions process, they were trying to hit their black target numbers. In thousands of cases, admissions AND denials were primarily, if not solely, based on race. (Harvard even admitted that being black was the deciding factor for “as significant percentage” of admitted black applicants). It was all blatantly un-Constitutional under the Equal Protection clause and against ALL Supreme Court jurisprudence on these issues.
If Americans want to have a society where black people get special privileges in college admissions and other endeavors -- and it appears many Americans do want that -- then they need to amend the Constitution to say that. Because there is no way to fit what Harvard and UNC were doing into the Equal Protection clause as it is currently written.
"16,000 whites and 29,750 Asians scored above a 750 [math], compared to only at most 1,000 blacks and 2,400 Latinos". This is why affirmative action is so unfair and racist as deserving students who don't fulfill certain quotas get rejected in favor of unqualified people.
Such incredible bad faith on your part to call efforts to address historic systemic racism against black people racist in themselves.
The 14th Amendment was specifically passed in order to provide a measure of redress to black citizens after centuries of slavery and oppression. To now be used as a means to mock that redress and to aim for 'color blindness' when no such thing has ever existed in this racist country makes the right wingers on the SC a shameful embarrassment.
The white or asian citizen who bitches about these historical efforts without even bothering to understand them in context is just a complete jerk off, as are the politicians in robes who just destroyed one of the most important 'rebalancing' efforts in this country's history.
Tough sh*t for poor Timmy who had to go to Stanford instead of Harvard so that a descendant of black slavery could get a shot at generational change. This is just more proof that too many white people in the US harbor the same dark, calloused hearts as our ancestors.
There are (roughly) 1/2 as many Asians as blacks in America. Yet there are 16x as many 750+ SAT math scores who are Asian. Since when is advocating for merit-based policies that don't explicitly harm certain groups "racist"?
What is the purpose of government if not to defend innocent human life from deliberate destruction? All else is lesser.
Somehow, the unalienable Right to Life mentioned in the US Declaration of Independence was alienated.
If we can slaughter one innocent human being in some bizarre notion of justice such as direct abortion, what prevents slaughtering all innocent human beings?
You don't like Dobbs? Even Justice Ginsburg saw problems in Roe, as did the legal scholar Laurence Tribe of Harvard, a co-founder of the liberal American Constitution Society. Of course true liberalism traditionally has defended the weakest and most defenseless in society, which makes advocacy for direct abortion by so-called "liberals" ironic.
60%....that is about the percentage of white people currently in America

Sure, but we know black students are disadvantaged because of the historical oppression of their race, so those 1,000 must be pretty special and deserving of their place.

The claims that slavery and historical injustices are the sole cause of inequality are dubious and unproven to begin with. The supposed antidotes given by liberal Democrats are racist and discriminatory. A contingent of black intellectuals offer opposing theories, such as that Democratic welfare policies in the 60's created cycles of poverty by rewarding single motherhood and dependence on the government. This is evidenced by the fact that crime and poverty rates increased after this period, to levels beyond those post-slavery and Jim crow. Also, many ethnic groups also came to the US in poverty and were not caught in the same cycles of poverty. I tend to agree with these positions, as they tend to come from people who experienced these changes, like Thomas Sowell, and not from young, white, middle class liberals.
The only evidence people who propose that racism caused the inequality between blacks and other racial groups is the inequality itself, which is extremely silly circular reasoning. Hardly proof of causation.
Recorded on November 15, 2018Thomas Sowell discusses economic inequality, racial inequality, and the myths that have continued to falsely describe the system...
Even if their parents didn’t live in the US until the late 1900s or later? As I can guarantee you that’s the majority of black students with a 750+ math.

You know, your arrogant and sanctimonious tone belies the fact that you're rationalizing why a group of people deserves preferential treatment based exclusively on their skin color. It's like watching an adult throw a tantrum because someone came in and finally took the training wheels off his bike.
You're just going to have to learn to ride the big boy bike like everyone else! Bumps, cuts, scrapes, and all.

You know what is so comical. We're like literally the polar opposites. US ball sports, school/standardized tests, employment, driving, penis size, height, crimes, etc. I cannot find one thing in common. I am sure if there is a percentile ranking for all those variables, it will look exactly like SAT score profile. Maybe basketball will be much more skewed.

Guess what dude. It isn't all about you. In the multi-racial USA, all the other races don't enjoy playing 2nd class citizens to blacks just because some self hating whites like yourself want to abase your entire race to make up for your "racial sins."
