I think I have been pretty clear about my thoughts about this, but I have to and we all have to remember Gu is a child and her decisions are not completely her own. Distressing a child is not good, with that said I am out of here.

A few posters finally figured out she doesn't have to renounce citizenship to compete for China. But we have a toxic combination of incels and nationalists have piling on questioning her loyalty to America. Please spend 16 pages debating the merits of American citizens playing for the Chinese hockey team. Because she's Asian American she's not going to cash in like other American Olympians so she went the smarter route. Kristi Yamaguchi and Nathan Chen have not received the level of endorsements or media acclaim after claiming gold in figure skating compared to past American winners.

And yet, the goal is to have the IRS continue to tax the person for rights and privileges they are not allowed to have.

The above is odd. If a person becomes a citizen of another country then the U.S. makes it harder to visit for that ex-citizen that they make it to visit for other citizens of that country? Odd.

The lawyer quoted in that article was being overly dramatic. If someone gives up their US citizenship and, for example, becomes a citizen of the UK instead, then they would have the same rights that every other UK citizen has. It's not like they're banned from entering the United States.
