There is the difference. UNC Walk-ons would never call out Jordan because they respect the legacy, they respect Dean Smith, and they respect the Tar Heels. It's written almost instantaneously in the wearing of Carolina Blue. In that regard, Centro never got the respect he deserved for his gold. That's like viewing Jordan for all of the 3 point Js he missed and not his dunks.

That speaks more about how he is as an athlete, most of his fans are from his track accomplishments not from a social media presence. I see people defending Kim Kardashian all the time but she's not extremely talented. She just has fans from her social media presence. Same with the instagram runners. They have some decent times, but many of their fans come from the personality they display on social media, not from their international medals. They don't have that. Maybe they will later, but until then people need to have respect for those who actually did something on the track. Hopefully you understand where I'm coming from. Were Centro's actions in bad taste? Yes. But he is accomplished than every American 1500m runner in history. Kids need to have more respect.

i think the oregon boys lost respect for centro when he outkicked hocker in the 5k b heat and then flexed about it on social media. its one thing to run that race as a fitness check, but again, it reinforces all the sentiments people are bashing him for. his ego wouldnt let him enter the main event with the possibility of losing to college kids so he entered the less race and bragged about the win when in reality you would think an olympic champion would be embarrassed or at least keep quiet about that one.

Well thankfully for Centro he's got REAL fans for his accomplishments who will still be there for him even when he doesn't display great character off the track. If one race is all it takes for someone to lose respect for a runner the issue isn't the runner, but the spectator. I can't help but feel half of the people I'm responding to are the Oregon Boys or fans of their social media presence. If you are, shut your mouth until you can actually win multiple international medals. I can't win international medals because I'm not talented enough so I'm gonna give respect to Centro. It is absolutely killing you guys knowing the fact that Centro has the biggest prize that you can possibly get as a miler.

I remember being at a race that Sunday morning (Australia EST) watching on IPad with others, absolutely cursing at the the way they were running that pedestrian 1,500, then collectively rooting for a lesser runner to outsprint them and make them pay, and finally all of us cheering Centrowitz final kick.

You take the opportunities you get, but he is no Wayde v Niekerk et al who are exceptionally more talented, yet more humble in their responses.

This to me is the best comeback. The Rio final was a poor 1,500 that became a 1200 jog with a 300 sprint.

If Centrowitz wants to roast anyone, it should be the stupid runners he beat.
