I've never heard anyone give a particular date for "climate collapse". Not even sure what that means.
But predictions about what will happen to the earth if we keep dumping greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere are pretty straightforward. The science is well understood.
That's very different from predicting when we might have a specific technological breakthrough like fusion energy. Fusion is always 20 years away.

Right now there are only two plants under construction, in Georgia. They are year behind schedule and the cost ballooned to $28 billion from $14 billion. They can only be built with federal loan guarantees, which, Hardloper, you are probably against, right? Right?
So as nuke plants don't get built and cost twice budget and require government help, renewables get cheaper and cheaper.
Nuclear will only get more expensive, after Fukushima's blowup made safety even more critical.

I doubt Al Gore really said anything as precisely as what you're implying, but if you have a specific citation, perhaps we can discuss it.
More to the point, a "tipping point" may only be apparent in retrospect. For example, some experts have speculated that the Greenland ice sheet maybe doomed in the long run even if global warming were halted at the current level, but it may take something like a thousand years to disappear.

Agree with agip here. It's too expensive and the designs aren't exactly something a private company can take on lightly. i can build photovoltaic cells in my garage but setting up agreements and arrangements for nuclear fuel isn't exactly easy. There's just no good solution yet for private companies. Add to the fact that pretty much no one wants to live near one and it makes initial construction too much of a hassle to deal with when you can just go for win/solar/nat gas in the mean time.
