All this false speculation. The husband runs a venue and he is successful at it. He is fulfilling riders, and if you do not know what that is, it is the demands of the talent for their appearance. If you think this is going to somehow cost the 17 year veteran of the program her job, in a little college town, it is you that is being naive. I suspect it is a distraction but not job worthy. Western would be hard pressed to defend firing the wife for the husbands transgressions of which has zero connection to the program. You guys are being weird even by LR standards
I think he can coach better than a C-. Recruiting and relationship building, he is an A candidate. I remember reaching out for a position at another institution and the Director was excited to inform me that Devin West was joining the staff. This guy was a distance oriented director. West was the only sprints coach on the staff. He broke a couple of school records that year and several conference champs/ regional qalifiers. I don't know if Devin West has a mentor, but I hope he finds one. Someone should tell him that as connected as he is, he should make the jump to Director of Track and Field- hire great coaches and he can focus on relationships with admin, community members, recruits, etc... I know some directors at P5 schools that don't coach very much, but they manage things well.
I agree with everything you said, except for the can he coach part.
You obviously have no knowledge of WSU and it's past in Track and Field. It's way more than a couple of distance runners. Check the Top 10 Lists all time. Many American's as well. It's as good as anywhere in USA. If you haven't attended Wazzu you have zero understanding of the place.
Yes, there is no place like WSU. WSU has a very rich and proud Track and Field History.
bold move going to a school that is about to cut track and field and is screwing the current coach out of retirement. Not a trustworthy place to be.
How do you know this? Besides if they keep cross country then he would be fine.
If you are familiar at all with the mergers of these schools then you would know it's not just xc and tf programs that are in jeopardy. At Clarion, Mansfield and Edinboro the entire athletic programs are at risk. All three have had precipitous drops in enrollment threatening their solvency. Discussions from one coach in the west, from administration is that changes could come as soon as next year.
Josh Neideck is going to be let go from Huntington by the end of next week for not being able to retain Diamond League talent to NAIA level regular practices and crappy early season meets.
