You obviously have no knowledge of WSU and it's past in Track and Field. It's way more than a couple of distance runners. Check the Top 10 Lists all time. Many American's as well. It's as good as anywhere in USA. If you haven't attended Wazzu you have zero understanding of the place.

It had an advantage back in the day, when it was in the pac 12, when athletes had less options, when there were less good athletes… now fast kids have more choices and the school/conference/athletics program is no longer relevant in anything.
Many years ago or even last year if Idaho, Gonzaga and some other random mid major were recruiting a kid WSU had the edge “we are a pac 10/12 power 5 program, don’t you want to compete with the best?” Moving forward when WSU is in the big sky or mountain west they will no longer out recuit local schools like Idaho (which is in a better location), like Gonzaga which has other top level athletics, and other mid-major colleges on the west coast that are much more highly rated academically.
The other posters are right, this is the end of the line for WSU… there will likely be jobs available at the end of the year when they clean house but it will likely only be a couple as the budget cuts they will soon face will likely cause them to downsize their coaching staff and maybe reevaluate having an traditional full and well funded program. Could be a great intro level job for some new coaches coming up, stay tuned.
I am being serious folks can say what they want about the guy. He can recruit and build connections with student athletes. He was the head coach in waiting at Arizona State for a reason. That program has a lot to offer and it can do better.
He was the associate head not the head coach in waiting
TEMPE – Arizona State University Director of track and field Greg Kraft announced that sprints coach Devin West will be named associate head coach and will be recognized
I think this is a move you make when you are young and dumb and have delusions of granger when you already are in a great place setup for a great position. Maybe I'm wrong.
Ok cool, he also left a month after being named "head coach in waiting" so it's hard to tell what his end game is unless he's getting moving bonuses etc in which case shout outs to him
I am not sure what his end game is. I have only spoken to the guy two or three times, but somehow he is well connected and finds a way land on his feet. Me personally I have stayed at Arizona State and hired some great assistant. Being a Director of Track and Field doesn't have to taxing and hard.
Little Rock Athletics announces the hiring of Will Kendall as an Assistant Coach for the Track and Field program. Kendall joins the Trojans after serving as an
Rondell Ruff was named the next head coach of the Mansfield Mountaineers men's and women's track and field program, Athletic Director Peggy Carl announced on Tuesday,
Seems to be an asset instead of a negative unfortunately.
Georgetown hired a coach who has had 4 jobs in the last year
Looking at his bio, he strikes me as a competent coach who has not received the recognition he deserves for his accomplishments. The likely scenario is his directors have taken credit for his work (as commonly happens.) Georgia must have appreciated his work, they brought him back. He appears to be good at both at coaching and recruiting. He was willing to work for lower tier programs to acquire his experience. Unless the detractors here can provide some concrete proof of any issues, his bio strikes me as someone who is clawing his way up in a ruthless industry.
He was the Head Coach / Director in waiting at Arizona State. He left to be an assistant at Texas under Floreal. He was let go for NCAA violations while at Texas. He should have never left Arizona State.
West has the gift of gab and is good with the 18yr old recruits. Can he coach? Mostly likely he is C- in the coaching / improving athletes.
It's almost like they wrote his bio to confuse you on purpose so you can't put a real time-line of where this guy has been, together. The way it jumps between schools and dates and back and forth between years instead of giving everything in either chronological or at least reverse chronological order is ridiculous. What is the real story on this guy? Does he just like moving a lot and seeing/living in different places? Is he being let go from each of these jobs or is it him leaving on his own accord? Does he coach, or does he just recruit and help the other coaches at practice? What's the real story? It's hard to believe he would keep getting hired at these big of schools if he sucked at his job or was doing shady stuff. He's worked with enough big names that they wouldn't give him a good recommendation if that was the case, right?
Gunnison will be getting a new coach, it is merely a question of when. One knows the administration has already talked about this, and probably to her.
They won’t get a new coach. The community will support her and so will Western. They have no choice as it’s an illegal to fire her for those reasons. She technically has nothing to do with it
While termination may not happen, they could strongly encourage her to resign. The level of support from the college and community remains uncertain, but personally, I wouldn't expect much. It's evident that Jen's husband, Bryan, had a pre-existing public association with Dani, who had a known criminal history and unsavory connections. Despite this, Bryan continued to publicly associate with Dani and Jen was aware of this. Given their close relationship, it's highly improbable that Jen was unaware of Dani and Bryan’s activities, including drug involvement. Moreover, the fact that the college hosted events at the same bar involved in drug sales doesn't reflect well on Western College's image. If I was Western I would strongly encourage her to resign.
I think he can coach better than a C-. Recruiting and relationship building, he is an A candidate. I remember reaching out for a position at another institution and the Director was excited to inform me that Devin West was joining the staff. This guy was a distance oriented director. West was the only sprints coach on the staff. He broke a couple of school records that year and several conference champs/ regional qalifiers. I don't know if Devin West has a mentor, but I hope he finds one. Someone should tell him that as connected as he is, he should make the jump to Director of Track and Field- hire great coaches and he can focus on relationships with admin, community members, recruits, etc... I know some directors at P5 schools that don't coach very much, but they manage things well.
