I love all the rubes thinking that Matt Choi’s alleged 70 miles @ 6:55 pace is continuous activity, when he’s barely broken 3 in the marathon (and even then with full bike support, etc.) with a similar pace.

Mile 13 it says he ran a 6:36 with 668ft climb which I would bet my whole life savings he couldn’t do in one all out mile fresh with that vert (because 99+% of people can’t). Looks like he left his watch running as he jumped back in the pacer car which is so dishonest but def matches his actions. I was on a winning TSP team several years ago and ran ~56mi and uploaded all my stupid segments individually. Side note- the top few teams sponsored by running brands take it seriously and are real runners for the most part but the majority of people there are insufferable influencers. Had the “pleasure” of interacting with Alexi Pappas at the after pool-party as she threw all my stuff including my wallet and phone off the table onto the ground so she could dance on the table for an Instagram video while wearing a tiara…
This calls for an investigation. Also very questionable: 6:33 with 550 ft elevation gain at miles 66, 7:34 with 950 feet of elevation gain at mile 50, and all the rest except mile 20, 33, 53 and 56, all over 8 minutes, some with massive downhills. My guess is the dude probably ran in the car for most of it and figured nobody would notice so long as the car didn't go fast. Though around mile 57, there's a sustained blip to sub 3 minute pace and what Strava said was a 43 400m, up a giant hill. Dude was riding in a car or maybe an e-bike.

Coros support I've got absolutely no problem with as they are objectively best watches. My "issue" with Saysky is there kit looks good but objectively, to an elite, why would you pick it over Soar/Nedao/Aeroswift & similar, and wear a heavier, not as breathable kit on race day?

cant help but think this guy needs some mental support. whyyyy is he becoming obsessed with battering himself into the ground with weekly increases in mileage and now chucking in an almost daily bike ride giving himself treble training days.
hes running great in the short stuff but despite the ridiculous mileage, it doesnt seem marathon specific in anyway. other than the marathon he ran where he had huge amounts of elapsed time, there have been little/no other long runs with any long efforts in. he just seems to be smashing out 2 runs per day, longer than necessary all at sub 7 minute mile pace and repping 400ms reps
Bester seems to be finally cracking... reduced a session of 3 x 30mins to 2 x 30mins + 15mins with truly regressive splits, clocking outside 5:50 mile pace at the end. will these cranks ever learn?!

Totally agree! He's at the start of new career and seems to have a partner and loving family. He's acknowledged mental issues with the need to justify his self-worth through running fast times. Seems like he is in some sort of episode.

It's not just YouTubers who seem to have their training all wrong, there are a lot of "hobby joggers" out there following fads and not really understanding how the training that day will fit into the bigger picture.
Most of these people would be fine following Pfitz 18/80 and adding in a few extra easy miles and probably PR

He isn't in 2:30 shape. He wasn't for Chicago either. He should know what shape he is in if he's charging $100+ a month for coaching services

He's a film maker. Film maker rules 101 is how to make the audience feel something. The 90's/00's feel good type of music makes a lot of his audience feel warm and fuzzy inside. I found Floberg’s most recent video to be more heartfelt than most. He still ran a PR. He ran a lot faster than most of the people on this thread will ever run. Give the guy a break.
still, they’re all mostly narcissist shills. the real “running community,” the people who deserve our respect, are the ones who quietly grind their way to their respective goals — whether it be Sub 3, OTQ, or beyond — without needing adulation from online followers, constant praise and validation, and without utilizing joke courses or other shortcuts. They simply grind it out with consistent thoughtful training and hard work.
That’s why Ko’s viewership precipitously declined. We could all get behind and root for an average joe traveling the world and eking out a legit Sub 3 and running Boston through trial and error. Then he lost his driving sense of purpose and started getting flown around the world on sponsor’s dime while sleepwalking through ill conceived training cycles. No longer relatable, and in fact appearing increasingly parasitic.
Jake and Clayton seem like the most purely “for the love of the game” channels, and those are the videos I never miss.
Jake has also made a concerted effort to understand and integrate to a culture very foreign to his own, which adds so much to his videos. The insights into the running culture over there are genuinely fascinating. Also hilarious watching runners like Bester suddenly try and adopt the ultra high mileage philosophy without the other important stuff that comes with it (e.g. tons and tons of fuelling and rest).

He seems to have a real bee in his bonnet about the parkrun changes. Not that I entirely disagree with his opinion on that, just that it didn’t bother me that much. The Brooms similarly were outraged when the changes (no records) happened and both still mention it from time to time along with Bester.
Have a vague memory he mildly mocked Ben Parkes at one of the ultras they were both doing (said something along the lines of you actually going to finish this one) and you could tell Parkes was miffed. Was kind of amusing.
Like this idea! He's also down my way. He seems into running and age-grade is very fast. His Paris marathon video is epic. No nutrition and glided round in 2.55 ish.
I may get flamed for this, but I find his running gear off-putting. He's that super hairy guy who wears vests multiple sizes too small. Also, his videos are often a bit like cheesy 90's tourist information adverts at times. Plus, he overly cares about park run changing their rules. In Brighton parkrun is a cesspit of rude people shouting at volunteers/other park users and idiots careering round with pushchairs and dogs.
Overall, he's a goo YouTuber (7/10). Worth looking up
