Lsu throws still empty?

There are too many dorky teenage distance clowns posting on this thread, thinking that coaching jobs are like being the CEO of a company or the head basketball coach at Duke. Most of these coaching positions in track and field can be run by anyone with a college education and some experience in the sport. The only real pressure are on coaches that make salaries over $200,000 and are expected to produce on the national level. Do you really think anyone cares about track and field at Potsdam A and M? College track and field has maybe 20 spots in the entire country where the sport is important. The other 300+ programs are an after thought for administrators. So, don't make such a big deal out of who is going to be the next wonderful coach at some college that most people haven't even heard about. Just post the jobs that are open and then maybe post who gets them. All this other discussion is just dumb.

I think Turk has done a pretty good job at Illinois. They haven't been good in Track in a long time.

Illinois used to be better. Turk doesn't seem to make the best decisions when hiring/firing coaches. There's a problem with women's distance under Haveman that lead Illinois's fastest runners to not compete for the last year (Denise Branch, and Lindsay Graham who Illinois got as a transfer from Furman). Illinois women were second-to-last in the Big 10 conference cross country meet (placing 13th, only beating Rutgers). In 2016, under Jones, they were 10th, and they were 8th in 2015, the same year that Schneider became a cross country All-American. The problem certainly isn't talent; it's coaching.

I heard Susquehanna made their hire, or at least sent out rejections. No news on who the hire is, however.

Sarah Haveman is a good person and a good coach. She needs to be given the opportunity to get her feet on the ground in Champaign/Urbana, develop relationships with the runners she inherited, and recruit her own athletes. I hope she is successful on all counts.

Anyway, I think that the results, or lack thereof, speak for themselves. Knowing her from Dayton, her abrasive personality doesn't help matters.

I totally agree! There is only a small percentage of administrators at schools and athletic programs in the country who actually know anything about the sports of xc and track! Sure the big time programs that pay 6 figures care a little more about winning. But to be hones most programs just want someone who can come in and coach, retain student athletes, keep them out of trouble, get good grades, and compete! I have been at 3-4 programs and had many interviews and most AD's have a very limited amount of knowledge in the sport and have more pressure from President's to hire someone who will be a good leader, recruit, and retain. This I know so all of you who don't have jobs or who are not getting interviews at the ones that are being filled. Get over yourself. People are hired for different reasons and it's not all about who has coached 145 national champions and 579 All-Americans! This is the truth except maybe at Oregon or a few other places! Just look at some of the schools like Mizzou or other DI schools! If it was about winning then they would have made staff changes long ago! #facts
