(1) Is this normal for long distance runs? A runner can have a vehicle act as a wind break and otherwise shade the runner from the elements during the run?

(2) How did he lose the RV when he runs directly behind them and signals to them how fast to drive?

The more I hear about this gong show the more ridiculous the whole thing is. Now you have some crazy old dude unilaterally appointed the arbitrator of if this guy is legit? This whole thing from start to finish is ridiculous.

Hello you bunch of lovely people. I am new to running myself(3yrs) and so far can say that 99% of runners met including fast slow elite have been supportive and encouraging . Yes I've heard of Rob being a fellow Brit . So I'm supporting his endeavour . With an eye open that the proof will be in the pudding to confirm or not the the record. I don't see what he and crews will achieve by setting up an elaborate scam . BUT I have another eye looking the other way which led me to this forum. Yes I've read all 140+ pages here .

Im not an ultra runner .i hope to walk jog an ultra someday . You seem passionate dedicated runners and I'm in awe of your abilities .

An observation that jumped out for me is . If you knew someone was attempting to break a decades old record in your backyard , why didn't you galvanise runners to run with him in a relay or there abouts from the start?

You all obsess about assistive technology that we know is 100% ? Right ? I can wear my garmin watch plus my iPhone on starva . Guess what ? Hmm different data on av pace HM etc . Then whilst running side by side with friends not one of our garmijs/strava matches up even with identical iPhones .

But that'sjust my tiny awareness of technology .

I myself do run faster in training runs than chip timed races ( it happens)
