Yes, Graeme Fell--who was 19 at the time--was the rabbit in that race. If I remember correctly, though, he lead for only for the first three laps.

Fell led the first three laps of the two mile. Malinowski, who defeated Henry the week before in the steeplechase, who pushed the pace hard midway in the two mile.

Steve Ovett was touch to beat,he runs very smart though,he knew how to used the track and preserve energy,I can see it now. Unless I was running 8:04 that day.I was going back and front I was running like a fool spending my all energy in a outer lane.Ovett gets credit.
The UK dont have these breed anymore as Ovett, Coe Graham..They have run out of them. These guys were mentally strong and physically firm to race with.

sure. it's possible (not) to run around 100 mpw like Rono has for the past year, at 56 years old, 25 lbs overweight and not lose weight.
Can you go back and read all the pages from 1-143 on letsrun.com threads.
I never hide any thing it is all there come on guys. I eat as I feel, I run as feel and I do as I think.

Ignore the doubters, Henry. They shall not derail you. Keep on keeping on.
Henry, I've been here for years and this board is filled with immature, pimple faced children. I'm glad this thread is heavily moderated.
What these people don't understand is alcohol seriously changes a body. It's not that Henry is just older and gained more weight. Alcohol attacks the body. It destroys it. My goodness, people die from alcoholism.
A lot more is going on with Henry than just fighting off weight gain, age and time off from running. He's fighting off the ravenging effects of years of alchohol abuse.
He's not going to overturn this thing over night. His body didn't deteriorate overnight and it won't snap back to great running form overnight.
But, Henry is well on his way to reaching his goals. He's plugging along and seeing progress. Like a whirlpool, as Henry's body gets more and more adjusted to getting along without alcohol and fueled by good food instead, his improvements will increase.
I know a masters 400 runner who hadn't run since college. He wasn't an alcoholic. He was just a typical, middle aged man with the middle aged spread. He gave himself 5 years to get back in to 400 shape to compete at the top the masters ranks. And, it took every bit of those 5 years to do it.
So, get off Henry's back and watch the metamorphisis. I, for one, am enjoying the show.
And lets not forget how far Henry has progressed over these 143 pages.

The 429 day of training phase II. I put in 147 minutes along the woods by the time I get home I was on my knees. I went straight to freg for two glass of milk.I can feel it the milk going straight to the bones. I crushed to the bed.Now I ahve recovered and I am heading to the track section this evening.

Henry, with all due respect, do you think that rehydrating with milk is such a good idea? Lots of calories there, and you are trying to quench thirst with them, which means maybe you take more calories than your body really needs, because of the thirst. This is what I am thinking, I hope it might help.
Great job Henry! I check this thread all the time to make sure all is well. Glad things are still going well and I am very excited to see you at camp. Expect a sign at the airport!

Are you drinking whole milk or 2%?
Thread hijacking has been moved here.
I am under the impression milk (chocolate) is an excellent recovery drink:

Drink up Henry.
I don't have access to Runners World. Can anyone give me a brief summary about what was said in the Henry Rono article?
you can pick up a RW at almost any newsstand, book store or drug store these days; and if you can't afford it you can stand there and read the article for free. Read it and check back with us.
just read it... wrote:

the article takes us on the journey from when Rono was a record holder, to today, in general terms, talking about his problems and now, his comeback. It was fair.
