Kofuzi generally keeps an even, level-headed tone, but some of his responses to this video's comments come across as irritable and almost confrontational.
Before I was reading this thread I would've considered Kofuzi pretty harmless. I'd watch his reviews sometimes before buying shoes I wasn't familiar with and had some sense of him as an average guy/mid-life marathoner who made decent shoe reviews. I have no idea when that all changed and he became this weird pseudo-celebrity. Thanks to this thread, I actively avoid his reviews and videos but still enjoy following along through the thread posts. It's become like that for a lot of shoetubers honestly.
It's funny that everyone's response to this is "now you've seen the light" and not "maybe don't spend so much time on message boards". Going to be unpopular here, but I think your first opinion that Kofuzi is mostly harmless is correct.
Is he lacking in the "shoetuber ethics" that are so carefully policed on this thread? Yes. But it's 2025 and everyone understands how the influencer business works.
The bottom line is that he runs in just about every shoe that I'm interested in and for the shoes that I own his reviews match up pretty well with my experience. So I get value from his videos.
John Broom name checking the thread again in his latest video.
He's making such a hash of programming his workouts recently that I think Coros will send him a free Garmin just to stop him from making them look bad 😃😂
In all seriousness they are proper runners and are making these videos for the right reasons, to help educate other runners and also promote that age is no barrier to having fun out there
Floberg predictions? I think he goes sub 2:30. I don't know that he needs to be much fitter to go sub 2:30 at this McKirdy race when he's run 2:33 at a normal race. But it does seem like he's gotten a little fitter. Weather looks good. There's a 2:30 pacer. If he does go sub 2:30 here, it's his next race I'd be more worried about, if he downplays how advantageous this McKirdy race is. If I ever PR'd at McKirdy, my next goal would be to run the same time at a normal race, unless it felt unusually easy like I accidentally sandbagged it.
Also maybe his narcissism is rubbing off on me but it felt like his last video gave another hint he reads this thread. First it was addressing the treadmill workout paces, now it's talking about having good form at the end of his workouts. If you're reading this, good luck Floberg, but I'm still cheering for 2:30:00. Remember it's just running.
Everything is set up for a good time for him. Will he acknowledge that having a flat course, with the shortest route mapped out, a pacer and bottles for him is a big advantage? Probably not. But then many people have PRs on downhill races and don't think it's advantageous
I’m definitely not a Floberg apologist, he is a massive narcissist, but I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with McKirdy. If he breaks 2:30, he earned it imo. Elites get their own bottles too, it’s a nice perk but there’s nothing blatantly cheating about it. The course is flat and not otherwise aided in any way that renders the PR bogus. It’s the massively downhill races (REVEL, St George, probably even races like Mesa) that are a total embarrassment. At least these shoetubers haven’t stooped that low, they’d be laughed off the scene. Good to see at least a little bit of ethical self-policing among the running community

I don't even really disagree. Bottles I don't think are a huge deal. Good weather, flat course, and a group to run with are the winning combo. And you can get lucky and have all that at a normal race. So it's not a fake PR but it could be hard to reproduce without the same conditions (or getting fitter).

In Ko’s defense, he ran a 2:58 at the (slightly downhill but overall pretty legit) Grandma’s and a 2:56 at (pancake flat World Major) Tokyo after that. He also openly acknowledged that the Tunnel course was downhill and discussed what he thought the Tunnel BQ would mean on a “real” course. Wasn’t trying to deceive anyone. But yeah, not his finest moment, and his running has been downhill (in quality, not course elevation) ever since he ran the legit Sub 3s followed by 3:04 mini blowup at Boston. He might be cooked from here on out, idk
OTOH pretty hilarious that the REVEL races advertise more than 2.5x the downhill of this already extremely downhill course, on paved road as opposed to rough packed terrain, with better course support. The lengths to which some people will go to fluff their delicate fragile egos and be able to tell themselves that they “qualified” for the hobby jogging Olympics are truly remarkable
So that’s why I look at Floberg and McKirdy and the usual shoetuber nonsense and generally think “at least they’re not cheaters” (the ones not loaded with PEDS to Go One More, that is)
Amazingly, this counts, as do courses with 5000+ feet of elevation drop. It is legal doping for the purposes of Boston qualification.
as you can see Tunnel was Ko’s “attempt 01” on BQ before he really got serious with training and grinding miles and proper workouts and eventually after many tries legitimately went sub 3
The fact that he almost broke 3 hours at the Tunnel marathon at the outset, before the multiple cycles that got him there legitimately, almost by accident, should tell you everything you need to know about these races and their legitimacy

I will never understand the obsession with a BQ, specifically those who are somewhat new to running and sort of expect it to happen within 6 months of them lacing up running shoes for the first time. Tbh it’s not that hard AND if you need a significantly downhill course to finally do it, it seems like a cheap way to get in imo. Would be so much more satisfying for people to actually just train hard for a few years and do it the right way if that’s what they need to do

So which is it? Do you think "it's not that hard" or do you think it's not achievable for new runs?
Literally contradicting yourself. No brain on this one.

It’s not that hard if you have some talent and discipline, but people want to do it right away without putting in the work because there is some weird run club culture about saying you’ve BQd. Not trying to sound like I’m contradicting, just saying pride/comparison makes people want to expedite the process
