I certainly didn’t prevent her from working. It made financial sense. If you had done the same, you wouldn’t be pushing 70 with a mortgage. But then you’ve never demonstrated much financial sense.

Perhaps if you had been a better provider your wife wouldn’t have had to work. That’s OK, she probably knew she was marrying a hero whorshipping slob whose life’s compass was The Patriot’s Schedule. “Hey honey, I don’t want to miss Coach Belichick’s call. She didn’t have to work. She wanted to. My wife is a highly educated woman who went to work giving back to our community. Unlike you, I would never have tried to prevent my wife from making positive contributions to society.

And naturally her financial contributions were a blessing. We were able to retire in our late 50s with no debt and move to a vacation dreamland. Meanwhile you’re approaching 70, still working, and with huge debt. That’s great financial planning.

Also, the next time you accuse someone of hero worship, you might want to use one of your other handles. Otherwise you come off as a huge hypocrite.

Seattle well put, that is me. We have been in a different era, and you have to go with controlling forces in order to make decisions about the future during which those forces will dominate. I posted your post years ago, and since then my forays into the markets have been very good, I have always gained except for one time when I broke even. I called it exactly, pretty much.?

Why? Because I had the (mis)fortune to be exposed to a bunch pf people with real money and power, and their advisors and traders, and there was ZERO discussion of nusiness or fundamentals. ZERO. In fact some of the younger among us mot only didn’t care about fundamentals, they didn’t even KNOW about them! And didn’t care to! And many/most with zero business experience.

I realized that at this point it was just a pure game, with nothing to do with business. That is only slightly hyperbolic.

Controlling forces. I have opined on what they will be in the near future, ie until and just after midterms. One i haven’t mentioned recently is the interplay between 401k’s, rotation into bonds by retiring boomers, pension fund insolvency, indexed benefits, inflation, and the strenfth of the dollar—it will be a big controlling factor soon. The reality is that we are in a managed economy.

SPXL was very good for me in this recent action.
