2022 College Track & Field Open Coaching Positions Discussion

Any word on Akron yet? Mitchell run out of town, goes to Illinois, and now what about the team? Kids arrive soon and no announcement of a head coach. There are rumors, but they aren't distance coaches, so that will take another few weeks at best.

There are just as many "track only" programs that put little to zero resources into cross country.

Tons of teams have placed top 10 in the NCAA in track with ONLY DISTANCE RUNNERS. Some teams even won with only distance runners.

The Florida men only got 4th at SECs with 78 points because they dont fund the distance program...but they won NCAAs with 54 points. Why is going track only deemed acceptable but going distance only is "disgusting"???????????

I did read it. It wasn't news, it was an editorial. It was literally a recap of his days at Georgia. There was no quotes and no new information, it was not news. And since I wasn't born yesterday and have heard him talk at convention, I was already well aware that he was a multi-focused coach that can win titles.

Not true. But it’s what egomaniac head coaches and their minions are usually saying when confronted with this issue. They brag online how good they are but they don’t mention they wasted ridiculous number of scholarships in a relatively obscure sport.
Do you know any track and field programs only that don’t even have a specialized distance coach on staff?

Massive difference concentrating only on “Track and Field” vs Distance only!!! 18 exciting events vs 4 not so exciting events!!?? Come on man.

You're casting judgements without knowing the quality of what her work will be. Maybe you're the one who is intellectually dishonest? I don't know what sciences you're into but watching episodes on the Joe Rogan Experience don't count as "education."

It was about how succeed at Georgia AND it speculated on how he might succeed at Illinois. I hope you’re coaching is more informed.

I’m not casting any judgements on her. I’m casting judgements on you trying to defend a hire based on something that’s unknown…the quality of her work.

I have heard "someone from Oregon" at Akron. Anyone have scoop? They must have their Head Coach if they are advertising for 4 assistant coaches.

I responded to your post that is in this thread. A more direct response to you than you’ve given me. So I’m guessing I’m in the right place. And since you haven’t responded directly to the questions about why this is an exciting hire or how her new boss KNOWS she’ll do a good job I’m pretty sure I know why you want me to post elsewhere.

They have a distance coach because they have to - cross country is a separate sport. The sprint coaches want to focus their fall on training sprinters so they hire a young inexperienced coach for pennies to handle cross country.

Do you want a school like Canisius up in Buffalo with no indoor or outdoor track to focus on sprints? What sprinters are going to want to go there? Or maybe their best shot to have a national qualifier is to invest in distance.

Both of you, please stop. Get each other's numbers, call or text each other and discuss your differences that way. Let the rest of us read and reply to this thread's intended topic peacefully. The off-topic public banter / back-and-forth serves no one in a positive manner.

I see no issue here. Every program should focus solely on cross country and distance. This is the only way that losers on this board can gain fulfillment in their lives
