The *fact* is that crime rates in Dem-run NYC have fallen significantly since 1990.
Except of course it was run by moderate Republicans/Independents from 1994 to 2018... The latter being a moderate Democrat nationally, but with views on crime (like Clinton), that would get him kicked out of the party today
Nonsense...Democrats have dominated the political scene in NYC and state since 1951.
This only analyzes one fraction of the bill (the direct payments), not other 2/3rds of it.
He completely ignored the $27 billion that CA got from the Feds as part of the Blue State Bail Out ($350 billion went to state and local governments). Still hard to believe they collected an extra $75 billion in taxes (that represents about a 45% increase in tax revenue when their GDP only increased by about 7% from the previous year).
It's hard to imagine a government over taxing its constituents to such a degree and not refunding it back. It's also hard to imagine a government asking for a federal handout when they evidently didn't need it. It just underlines how unnecessary the American Rescue Plan was and why we have the runaway inflation we are currently experiencing.
[Full disclosure: As I've mentioned many times on this board, I've been a voter for 50+ years and have never--not once--cast a ballot on the Democratic line. For any office, in any election.]
Not sure you know what "disclosure" means.
What's the point in constantly saying this? Why not just tell us who you voted for? You say that as if it makes you objective but you obviously don't vote Republican and still largely are on the liberal/Democrat team so you are probably just voting for a left-leaning third party.
Exactly. He ALWAYS takes the liberal side of every argument. He supports Biden, Kamala, Bernie & Pelosi wholeheartedly.
I completely agree that conservatives are needed in America. They are needed in every society to keep the institutional knowledge, pass on mores, norms, standards, etc. We need that backbone.
And the conservative accomplishment is not tangible...how do you explain exactly the golden goose that is America is the result of generations of norms and rules and standards kept up by conservatives? You can't really. But you CAN touch civil rights and social security. So liberals have an advantage there.
As for guard rails - they are needed. But American conservatives always seem to build them in the wrong places.
TRADITIONAL Conservatives are needed, not these Trumper idiots. TRADITIONAL Conservatives at least TALK a good game when it comes to fiscal responsibility and smaller government, but I have yet to see one actually implement it. IF a conservative were to actually do that, and IF they stopped the hatred against anyone who isn't Christian, white and/or straight, and IF they were for reasonable gun control laws, and IF they were for liberty for ALL people including women, then I'd be inclined to vote for one.
Traditional Republicans believed in the rule of law, legal immigration (and actually illegal immigration too which I do NOT agree with), fiscal responsibility, free markets, personal freedom/liberty (beyond just gun ownership). I'm on board with all of that (guns need to be restricted more than they are though, but they should not be illegal in this country).
BUT, the bottom began to fall out during Reagan's Administration. Rampant overspending became normalized with him. He courted and brought the Religious Right (mainly Christians) into the party, and with that, people who have intellects that make them prone to beyond nutso conspiracy theories, who reject science, and who believe they are victims and that everyone is out to get them, so racism and a whole bunch of other isms were fertilized and watered.
There really are only a handful of "Conservatives" left in the country who are even remotely decent people.
John Kasich
George Will
George Conway
Mitt Romney
I'd be hard-pressed to think of more. Liz Cheney is just right about Trump...she's wrong about everything else (well, she did come around on LGBT people and apologized for having been wrong, so props to her there too).

I am virtually certain that Bill de Blasio, who became mayor on New York City on 1/1/2014, would object to being called a moderate Republican or an independent.
And of course I didn't vote for de Blasio either. Most of my votes are for GOP (but never Trump--we NYCers know him too well) or Libertarians. Never socialists or communists, etc.
They’re anarchists who tried to take over a federal court house and a prison.
You are out of your mind if you think any of the very small number of people who you might consider to be Antifa (pffft) who did any illegal protesting are the same in any way as the organized group (made of multiple groups) who tried to overturn a fair election in this country. WTF is wrong with you?
I said VIOLENT crime. The stuff people care most about.
I was talking about that too! Take another look at the link from kibitzer. In 1991 the rate of violent crime across the country was 758.1 per 100,000 people; in 2019 it was 379.4, almost precisely half.
Again, those FBI data end in 2019 and it wouldn't surprise me that rates have gone up over the last two years--a pandemic can do bad things to a country. Do you have an actual link?

Correction noted, I obviously don't pay close attention to NYC, that did seem wrote after I typed it.
That does surprise me about your votes given many of your comments but I guess I don't know what the candidates are like in NYC. In the Seattle area, the general election is always Democrat vs. Democrat so you have to research and work out out which one is less crazy.
Oh shoot, I forgot, "Beating up SOME cops (see 6 Jan) not SO bad."
See any actual video of 1/6?
Cops removing fences to allow protesters into the Capitol.
Cops beating protesters.
A protester being shot to death.
No armed protesters.
Not a single cop killed despited the media claiming a few were for a full month.
FBI corruption in refusal to indict Hillary for keeping classified info on a private server and calling Huner Biden's laptop Russian disinfo and aiding the whole Russian collusion lie. Not to mention ginning up a fake terror plot against Whitmer to ensnare conservative whites (after decades of pulling that crap on Muslims and Arabs).
The 2020 election results are questionable
I believe that the official number of cop injuries was 100-something. Nothing you said refutes this.
And if cops need to beat back people at the U.S. Capitol trying steal an election (and maybe hurt or kill members of Congress), beat away.

I’d vote for someone that fit your description. And I did vote for Kasich when I lived in Ohio. Second best governor I’ve ever had. DeSantis is the best unless you chose to believe all the misinformation about him. Most conservatives don’t hate anyone unless you think respecting and not pandering to people is hating. it is not.
Thats a small list you have and the list of liberals that are worthwhile candidates is even smaller.

And I am sure similarly that you would support those cops who were needed to beat back with any means necessary those rioting antifa and BLM members? Use whatever means necessary to squash their rioting?

I’m not talking about the trend when compared to 32 years ago. I’m talking about the recent trend.
Is Ron Desantis a trumper???! He’s well educated, articulate and self made.
Alsi, a very good baseball player.
Are Desantis voters trumpers???!
Ivy League educated. Smart and a actual problem solver. Dems are afraid of him which is why they try to disparage him.
They don't try to disparage him. They pull out all measures to destroy the guy.. Ostensibly they are decent and civil towards the guy but behind the scenes they are doing whatever is necessary to rip the guy to shreds. They learned from the best, Hillary. She would always stay above the fray but her minons were working day and night to slander,, impugn, and libel (and even do more on top of that ) to forever ruin their opponent's reputation. Hillary was ruthless. No she wasn't. She was way beyond ruthless. Evil. Sick.

Guess what, moran boy? I don't live in your pathetic, perfectly simplistic us-versus-them world. Cops beating back looters? Great.
Second: "Any means necessary"? Where the f*** did you get that?
