Old cold warriors say the Ukraine war is the best cold war deal since Russia losing Afghanistan.
We spend a little money and not our own soldiers to help bleed Russia of both men and equipment.
The smart country lets the enemy soldiers die for their country.
On the one hand, Trump is continuing the tradition of Reagan, blowing up the deficit to funnel more money to the super-rich, shrinking the middle class to enrich the inherited wealth class.
But on the other hand, he is doing something new by abandoning the US lead in basic science research, and abandoning decades of US dominance via democratically allied countries with robust free trade and scientific cooperation, and immense US soft power. Making the US hated across Canada and western Europe is something new.
I think this also falls in the "something old, something new" category.
