Olympics has a "best effort" rule that can DQ athletes and teams who hold back for various reasons, though it's almost never enforced. It would be interesting if NCAA had that rule and had consequences for teams that intentionally basically blew off Conference champs.

That rule exists in college too, if you jog one race or drop out, you cannot race anymore in that championship. But for Portland, they did not really hold back at conference, they did not start their best runners. Teams in the NBA do that all the time. Running 8k's and 2x 10k's in 3 weeks at your best is just incredibly hard on your body. It should not be asked from 20 years old. (Except BYU, they're all almost 30:-) ) The schedule needs to change.

Ha ha. You dummy. I’m in Wisconsin. Anyway, D3 coverage wasn’t as good as the other two. I was able to watch badger game at the same time though. Still better than what NCAA provided the last couple of years. Now I can cancel my subscription and still use the pro for another month.

Conveniently forgets the most important part of the podium finish at NCAA's, That BYU was 3rd and PORTLAND was 2nd. Can't understand how you would want to finish lower at NCAA's because you won a conference meet that counts for nothing... but maybe that's just me.

I completely disagree. If you say that the conference meet doesn't matter, then you've clearly never been involved in college athletics as either an athlete or a coach. The conference meet is important. Now if BYU had bombed and finished outside the top 10, then yeah, I'd agree with you. But I would 100% take BYU's season over Portland's season, and so would pretty much every athlete, coach, and administrator in the NCAA.

So the Pilots came into the season ranked 17th, ran great at Wisco, won regionals, and 2nd today, but you would take BYU's season instead? Thanks for the daily chuckle.

It's sad that Kenyans notoriously cheat in so many demonstrated ways -- the African age issue has been a zit on U.S. high-school college running forever, but the EPO is a more recent addition to the shame pantheon -- that you freely acknowledge the existence of one form of rule-breaking in the context of sarcastically denying the other, and submit that this represents acceptable ethics.

I wasn't admitting to a doping issue, I was simply arguing the perpetuated view of rojo/wejo and several other Americans here that when they lose to Kenyans it's not because they are better; it must be that they must be cheating. Usually the argument is that they use EPO because there's no testing in Kenya. While some Kenyan athletes have been popped for doping, the ratio of clean to dirty athletes is close to the rest of the world including US. We have the Sumgongs and Rita Jeptoos while you have the Gatlins and Gay.

I see a lot of American exceptionalism and white supremacy on this site and it's some times too obvious when the official race reports start specifying American-born, non-African born etc. I also think you have convinced yourselves that we are too poor and morally bankrupt to have a decent testing system. I feel, as a Kenyan, that American track fans have an unspoken consensus that if they lose to Kenyans who train in Kenya it must be doping.. And if they lose to Kenyans who train in the US, it must be age cheating. Luckily actual pro runners like Desi Linden who I have seen training in Kenya know that it's not always the case. And the Robertson twins are like Kara Goucher meaning that they may have some knowledge but they don't know how to express it well. They also know deep down that the system works which is why they continue to train here and have respect and admiration for some of our athletes.
