Nonsense. I´ve run both and Dubai is faster. Lot less turns. The reason Geb blew it in Dubai was because he almost always went out to fast, like running the first 10k in 28,30.
And he was freaking 40 years old. The results today definitely shut up Nutella, he stopped commenting 15k, that was nice.

Thanks for the explanation. I am sure many and most runners are clean. Rita Jeptoo won the WMM. Imagine the outcry if the male winner was caught. Kisorio was among Kenya's best for a time. Can you name comparable distance track athletes from other countries caught in the last 5 years? Ramzi, the Russians? Kenya and Ethiopia have dominated the sport for decades. So much so that the sport has lost popularity in other parts of the world. They are poor countries but at some point the should take responsibility for making it clear that they are pushing for clean athletes. Their federations should be leading the conversation on ABP's, not criticizing everyone for not understanding.

I respect Seppelt for his investigation about Russian situation : this was a TRUE investigation, lasting long time, and producing effects that, I hope, can clean athletics (the fact to finally catch Lamine Diack and his son, after the rumours there were from long time, it's a very important result).
I don't respect Seppelt when he speaks about "widespread doping in Kenya after deep investigation", when I know the investigation last 4 days, and there were not real evidences, apart the words of a doctor in Kapsabet, cheated by Seppelt himself (who told him was a new manager), and anxious to show his ability to support top Kenyans with illegal substances.
I don't respect Ashenden and Parisotto who, after working for the Biological Passport, say that there are suspicious data for more than 50 Kenyans, basing their suspicion on an average of 2.4 tests for each athlete, when they well know that, without at least 7-9 tests that can really show deep fluctuations, nobody can give any signification to the test itself, especially if carried out BEFORE having clear rules about how to take blood, the situation (OOC or after a race), weather, altitude, etc...
I continue to say that, if scientists don't know the effects of training, they can't speak about the effects of doping, and NO SCIENTISTS INVOLVED IN BIOLOGICAL PASSPORT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT THE DATA OF ATHLETES BORN, LIVING AND TRAINING IN ALTITUDE.
But, of course, for media the most important argument, at the moment, in the sport is doping. This created the idea (this really "widespread") that in every sport the best are doped, because without illegal supports is not possible to be at the top.
Everybody can have his opinion, and of sure I don't say nobody is doped among Kenyan and Ethiopian runners. But I can't accept that facts must be manipulated, or not known, and people can base their opinion on something clearly not true.
It was clear to me, in the last half mile or so, that Abera had a much better sprint or a lot more left in the tank than Berhanu . Likely both, and he could actually have won by more, but wisely chose did not risk it. Unwisely he miscalcd his kick by a couple of seconds.
We shall see how Abera follows this up. Based on career so far, I bet this is his peak.
It is kinda suspicious that all these Ethiopians, whom no one had ever heard about, showed up and then they take all spots on the podium.
And then the brojos post that it's worth it to dope like crazy for a year, not get tested and then go to Dubai where you know you can run without being bothered.
Some would say it is a level playing field - but it's not a level playing field when compared to Berlin or London, where these runners have to endure testing like they're some kind of animal.
Of course it is peak. He won a top marathon.
You know how they say runners only have a few good marathons in them? Most runners only have ONE 2:04 or less marathon. You push that hard, you pay the price.
BTW, this course is tougher than Berlin. Berlin is probably short (easy to cut the official tangents?) anyways and it is cooler.

While I personally believe that Paula was CLEAN, it was interesting that she talked about cleanup and renewal process etc but she did not doubt any of the Dubai runners from Ethiopia.

Ethiopian Tesfaye Abera won the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon, crossing the finish line in 2 hours, 9 minutes and 46 seconds on Sunday. Compatriot Debele finished the race just under a minute behind Abera, clocking a time of 2 hours, 10 minutes and 31 seconds.

There, there. It's ok. You'll be alright. In the end, it's really pretty simple actually. One is way more talented than the other.

Tirfi Tsegaye is way more talented.
Just incredible. Imagine running a 2:04 marathon and finishing second. Running 4 back to back 10Ks sub 30 and finishing with a 2K at the same pace.
If you took the 50 best high school runners in the U.S. and had them run 120 miles a week at altitude for five years, focus on the marathon, and offered them 5 million dollars if they ran under 2:05, how many would be able to do it on the Dubai course? I bet a decent number. There are more Ryan Halls and Dathan Ritzenheims out there. Probably on the JV basketball team . . .

This tells me I don't know anything about distance running.
Rule 1, guys 6 foot 4 are too tall to compete with 5 foot 8 guys beyond 12k at the very top.
Rule 2, a guy that can run a fast 400 can't run world record pace of most of a marathon one year later.
then again, until bolt came along, no one was predicting a tall guy would run 9.5, not in a million years.
maybe this guy is not that tall, and not that fast and not that young?
i have no idea. great run. great to know the rules really don't apply in special cases.
despite most of the evidence to the contrary, the world really isn't a cliche. its an ongoing experiment.
Bump. It looks like the world jr record holder who took third this year is one of the positive results. The Tokyo champ who ran 2:04:52 in Dubai a little while ago. There can still be a lot of great, clean runners but can we be so sure the drugs would not work?
