Hahahaha I kept wondering why anyone defending him was being called Brian but no one defending her was being called Alison.

I think it is due in most part to the fact that his name is not Brian.

Some people here commented on the fact that he could have stopped and his 2nd AG place wasn't in contention. But it doesn't work this way unless you take the elite start in some tris (ironman).

So different age groups start in different waves. So you are not directly racing other people for overall classification and you might not know who you are racing with for AG or overall classification. AFAIK he might have thought he was leading the race, I think he finished 6th overall.

This changes everything! Blair is completely justified pancaking a woman on his way to the finish line. Do you recommend the stiff arm or lowering your shoulder to clear the path from these pests?

If this is in any way the accurate portrayal of what happened, then this lady needs to contact her insurance to see if they'll cover the costs of having her head removed from her butt. Self-importance at it's worst

The blogger or Alison's friends are obviously trying to milk this thing with a Today Show screening and interview. Straight from the blog comments:

I then empathized with the guy, saying I've been in that situation before and yelled at the person who wasn't paying attention. So, I'm not sure why you say I can't bring myself to say she was at least partially at fault. Alison was definitely at fault for not watching where she was going.

What made me angry, and what prompted the people who saw it happen to report the incident to the race director, was the choice to hit her hard out of the way. USAT and the race organizers interviewed people at the scene, collected photos and a video, and decided to disqualify the guy for unsportsmanlike conduct.

I made a mistake in posting the two photos I was given and expressing my anger, which generated a strong emotional response from many people. The guy would soon be punished for what he did and did not deserve a "trial by Internet" as Jason Adams called it in an earlier comment. For that, I am truly sorry.

I told my friend Clay Shirky (author of "Here Comes Everybody" and expert on the impact of the Internet on society) about what happened and how surprised I was by the response. He was too polite to call me naive (which I was), but he told me about the concept "why wasn't I consulted," which was first described by Paul Ford in a 2007 essay about how anger drives crowds on the Internet. I obviously tapped into that dynamic and generated a surprising (to me, but in retrospect, what else did I think would happen?) amount of outrage on both sides. The Today Show tried to get Alison to go on TV to talk about the incident. Thankfully, Alison refused.

You're right about my incorrect use of the term "elite," since the guy was not a pro athlete. Thanks for the correction.

This is what is known as the "playing stupid" defense. "Gosh, even though I wrote a post painting Alison as a saint and this other guy as a doosh, carefully chose the pictures to cast the guy in the worst light, and deleted all comments that questioned my on-sided angle of the story, I had no idea it might affect this guy other than him getting DQed." Yeah, right.

The only narcissistic people I see here are this Alison and her personal blogger, whose job it appears to be to tell the public how much of a better person she is than everyone else in the world.

The trashing of this guy continues. Obviously if you aren't a pro athlete you're not elite. So now if you aren't elite, you personal goals that you been pursuing for years take a backseat to an obnoxious, self-important hobby-slogger?

Has the video been released? To say Alison only "turned and waved" sounds harmless but the only perspective I've heard about Alison is that she is a kind/caring/cookie-eating angel. Sounds like a person ripe for self-righteous, indignatious behaviour.

Of course the Today show doesn't want to talk to me. But would that have been any more ridiculous that the Today show talking to her? Of course, we won't have to be subjected to it because despite the Today show's request for an interview, gracious, polite, magnanimous Alison has turned them down. And we know it has to be true. Because her blogger friend says it is and he saw the whole thing.

This Charles guy is a piece of work. He's entitled to get angry, but Blair, who is in full competitive mode at the time and exhausted after 4+ hours of effort is not?

He claims to have been "given" the photos. Dollars to doughnuts he hunted them down.

He faults the Internet crowd for anger management issues, but makes no apologies for his own self professed anger. Give me a break

If he has got video of the incident, then, give it to the internet, let the trolls analyze it and give their opinion. Otherwise he should shut up and stop being such an eggy piece of job.

As far as the circumstantial evidence goes (and due to the lack of video) she was at fault despite any minor scratches she got.
