Looks like Haven will have a fair presence, with Blood in the 5K and a team in the dmr. Only other PSAC distance/mid-distance guys I saw on the list were Clark (Cal) in the 5K and Strauman (IUP) in the 800m.

So, not a lot of PSAC runners, but all should do fairly well. Predictions as follows:

800 M -- Strauman, 2nd (1:50.?)

5000 M - Blood, 2nd or 3rd (14:12-14)

-- Clark, 12th or 13th (14:35)

DMR -- Haven, 7th (9:56 - 9:58)

Would love to see the Haven guys finish higher than 7th, but they'll lose a couple of seconds (from the 9:55 they ran in Boston earlier in the year) if they run Edelman at 400M (instead of Martin) as they have listed on their Nats entry. Pomerantz might be able to improve by a second or two on his 4:11 anchor from their 9:55, but I can't see anybody else improving much.

Also, it is great to see somebody from CUP running at indoor nats. It's been a while...I wish Clark the best.

Overall, it's "weird" to not see Weiss at Indoor Nats and also weird that nobody from the PSAC made it in the mile, as I think that is a really deep event for our conference. Sucks that Pinto doesn't get a chance to run at this meet, as he could be competitive. But, I guess it's just deep this year on a national level.

james carney, millersville grad, turned down his trip to world XC's. WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD HE PASS UP THIS OPPORTUNITY?? blows my mind.

Mansfield will be only getting stronger as the years come. They had alot of success with Morseman 14:57, and 4:19. Sanford 1:53.97 and 2:30. Only watch for their program and succes to build. Blood ran two amazing races at PSAC's and was totally the guy too beat. He looked so smooth, good luck to all PSAC Runners who made it to indoor Nationals.

Yes...I keep trying to figure out why he would pass on this as well. Personally, I think getting to wear teh red, white, and blue at World Cross in Kenya would be a friggin' incredible experience. But, I'm not Carney so who knows.

I kept saying to myself, well, maybe he believes he can make the OLY team and wants to focus on training...but that just doesn't add up. Going to World Cross seems to be perfect for getting ready to make it to through the Trials. So, I doubt that is it.

I do remember that Spence really starting improving in leaps and bounds when he got to the point where he didn't have to race every weekend to pahy the bills. I believe he used to say that for a long time he was a whore to the roads. I have no idea what somebody like Carney would make via sponsorship, but I'm guessing it ain't much. He's likely either trying to race adn win money every chance he gets or he's working a full/part-time job.

So, perhaps Carney feels he is on the verge of a big breakthrough that will take him to the next level financially and let him focus on training for big races rather than racing/working all of the time.

Too bad he passed though -- would of been cool to see him run at Worlds.

We have reason to believe he may have defected to the "Haven"! His name is found down the right hand side of Lock Haven's PSAC banner from last weekend's championships (check out the pictures from the photographer that was there - David Bracetty}. He may be staying with Spidell & Blood as the rumor goes!
