Hocker peaked to perfection. Fisher and Young not so much. They were stronger earlier in season while Hocker looked rugged. Great race.
Not to sound like a fanboy, but for as little as Ingebrigtsen has run this year, he ran incredibly well today. Bodes well for his 2026 comeback.

52.6 (27.1/25.5) last lap. Jakob might be cooked. I said watching Millrose he’d never win a gold again. I now feel correct, even in the 5,000.
For an informed man like yourself that's an unexpected thing to hear from you.
Talent doesn't go away. He'll be back with a bang next season.

Is he a threat to a fit Jakob in the 5k now?
yes. somebody said that was a 52.5 or something?? if that's true, he's the new favorite going forward. no matter what.
it's god's gift the way his body is able to peak for these championship meets while looking the way he looks the other 51 weeks of the year.
don't forget the weather. It's much better than last week, but still 60-high dew point, not ideal. Hocker is definitely in 12:40 low shape, minimum.
Particularly impressed by Hocker coming back to run so well the year after gold in the Olympics. It's really easy to get the Olympic hangover and lose some motivation (happened with Centro after 2016, Kerr after 2021, etc); instead he got in the shape of his life and ran it back.

52.6 in a 12:58 race. I don’t even prime Jakob can do that.
Bekele and Lagat have.
Jakob honestly looked great today especially when he went up to the front
Why wouldn’t Hocker give up his 5k spot to his dear friend Cooper Teare?? Come on, he’s already qualified for the 1500 team, how selfish can one be?
It's one thing to have a bad championship, but Ethiopia's has been catastrophic with not even a whiff of future prospects like the Kenyan men who had a 17-year old win and a 21-year-old win bronzes.
I personally want to thank Hocker for making the 4am wake-up call worth it. My wife won't think I'm as dumb now. Lots of wins all around.
Shoutout to Gressier, man. Zero to hero this championship.
So that he can get 2 golds and cooper aint taking no pity spot
I can’t believe people were saying Cole Hocker should give up his spot for Cooper teare. LMFAO

One day Ethiopia and Kenya will figure out that they can’t leave 5000 meter races to a kick against 1500 studs. SMH
Don't hold your breath. They had 2022 and 2023 and 2024 and 2025. I bet they flop 2027 too.
Meanwhile Jakob had nothing but fumes but he still tried to win. I could see it wouldn't work but at least he went down honorably, rather than rolling over for the kickers.

The poor deer, THE WEATHER WASN'T IDEAL. But it was just fine. 79°/68° You were told that every day for the last 3 days! Does not pay attention,

Of course he will be. But so will Hocker and he can run 12.5 for the last 100 of a 5,000 of any speed. How big a gap will Jakob need?
All 4 big guys in for the USA. This 4x400 is about to be an all-timer.

In a match-up between the two, Lagat closed in 51.94, while Bekele 52-high (12:59 v.s 13:00), though that's a one-off race.
