They are super politically liberal, which some have speculated accounts for 75% of the vitriol they get on LRC.
Pretending the primary reason people on here don't like him because he's socially liberal is so disingenuous. Good grief. They don't like him on here primarily because he's one of the world's biggest self-hype men and keeps making claims that he can do athletic achievements that people have a lot of respect for (i.e. the sub 4 mile, the Western states CR) without backing it up. You don't have to know or disagree with someone's politics to dislike a braggart.
Are we going to skip past the part where he was going to set a world record in 2025? That was definitely on his agenda post-Javelina.
Without going back through older podcast episodes, I'm fairly certain he predicted a WSER win, another Leadville win and the some sort of WR attempt, whatever that means,
I just listened in on David’s therapy session with Megan—I mean their podcast. I want to point something out: Being vulnerable isn’t a default good. It means someone is leaving themselves open, but that’s not always something to be praised. It does not follow that making oneself publicly vulnerable makes them respectable or brave.

Like I said in my initial post, I'm sure I missed a few grievances this board has. There's like 3000 posts about the guy in the last few months.
This definitely falls in the category of "he keeps making claims of athletic achievements that he can't back up" though.
I've been listening to that podcast ep this afternoon, and that line gobsmacked me. I immediately paused and came here to see if anyone else had called it out yet.
I mean, to a certain extent, I think Megan is right. It takes a certain idiocy to be an ultra runner. But to pretend that David is NOT that type of idiot is bizarre. He very clearly is. He's just not as talented/hardworking as the other idiots.
Also, it's something I would only say as a anonymous person posting on LRC, and NOT as a prominent personality in the running world who KNOWS the attention that this particular episode is going to get. Like, saying stuff like that is not going to make them friends.

would you be able to use Otter AI or another transcription service to get a transcipt of that podcast episode and post it here? thanks

What all you haters fail to realize, at least according to the most recent Roche Co. Podcast, is that David would win and be the most dominant ultra runner to ever walk the planet if he wasn't so intelligent. Because of his superior intellect, he can't endure suffering like all the other mental rejects out there who are better than him. Apparently, they are all too dumb to understand that what they are enduring.
My word, these two are some of the most special individuals ever. How anyone can listen to the garbage that comes out of their mouths and take them seriously, or hold any level of respect for them, is beyond me.
Yikes. I'm thinking about the people who have finished Barkley, which might be the ultimate type of ultra event suffering: most of them are scientists, a number of PhDs, etc. John Kelly comes to mind (who is one of his own athletes)
I wouldn't be surprised if Mantz was just pacing, but if he runs the whole thing I predict he sits back because he won't need to push the pace, running sub 27.

Tara Dower (AT), John Kelly (AT*, Barkley, Penine Way), Damian Hall (Penine Way, Tor des Geants). I’m sure there are more. David just called them all out as being of lower intelligence.
*Admittedly, John may have now transcended his layman’s idiocy given his Appalachian Trail FKT DNF. Congrats, I guess?
