1. she broke her own record. less exciting.

2. record is almost 2 decades newer than Hall's record. less exciting.

3. Her US record is more than 3 minutes slower than the WR, while the men's WR is less than 2 minutes slower. Both underwhelming, but still, the women's less exciting.

But then again, if the Brojos were to decide that these two record setting runs are equally newsworthy, I wouldn't really care. Even though they're not.

Exactly. Workouts mean nothing if you can’t get it pulled together on race day. Maybe Ritz should put a brake on all these promo videos and interviews prior to races because it’s starting to get embarrassing. Klecker is like one of Ritz’s less successful female athletes who had a whole YouTube video on some big deal workout before Trials and saying she’s going to make the Olympic team only to struggle not to come in last in the race. 🙄

It’s not about the videos or the hype or even the coaching, it’s about the talent. Nuguse and Obiri are A++ talents and they will thrive with Ritz because of who they are, videos or no videos. Beamish is an A talent, and he’s going to do great things IF he stays healthy. Klecker is just not of this caliber talent. Thats ok, very very few are.

honestly, all the workouts i saw from Klecker's camp only served to reinforce that a lot of "top coaches" don't really understand physiology very well

as a coach, it's pretty frustrating when it's obvious that working with elites is more about "who you know" than "what you know"

also would say that i never got workout king/queen/hero vibes with the efforts Klecker or his camp posted; they were weak af

I disagree pretty strongly with this take. We shouldn’t encourage athletes and coaches to give us LESS access to the sport, and instead should encourage the opposite. That includes sharing their perspective on how their training / preparation is going - which will sometimes end up being wrong

Great callout. Another one to callout is Alex Maier. Debuted at Chicago with a 2:11 and ran 60:51 today right in front of Clayton Young. Hopefully more of these collegiate 10k guys make the move to the roads earlier on their career and see a few minute improvement prior to the '28 Trials.
