What happened was there was one year that neither Butler or Dunn were in charge of the program and that hurt their ability to get freshman to participate after Covid. Also the fact that Dana Hills has rapidly been losing enrollment ever since San Juan Hills opened. It’s the only D1 school in the Coast View Conference that has dropped two enrollment classifications.
Wasn’t San Juan Hills opened in 2007? Dana Hills has had great teams between then and now.

I mean, Dana Hills has had a lot of greats teams after 2007. Not every year but a lot of great teams
Even after Butler left, Dana Hills made NXN in 2019 and 2023 and placed in the top 10 there both years
Mountain View is now in DII and CCS DII is even more of a slaughterhouse this year- only 2 teams from that division can qualify for state this year. Los Altos is now in DI. Also Saint Francis MV has a transfer in Lily Symon (Los Altos), she was 8th in the 800 state meet. She ran 4:54, 2:10, and 18:49.
From the boys side, Jesuit, Beckman, and Mountain View are going to NxN. I can honestly see Mountain View beating Jesuit this time around- they return 5 guys and have 2 incoming freshman within low to mid 4:30s (Liam Tassa 4:31 and Mac Zhang 4:35). Mountain View’s top 3 3200 times span from 9:13 to 9:21. Plus their returning 5k (Woodward park) times span from 15:36, 15:52, 15:56, 16:14, and 16:16. Jesuit returns everyone minus Kadel but don’t have the same amount of depth Mountain View seems to present (they also do have the Bilodeau transfer but I think they’ll stay about the same as they were last year unless Ogilvie is training again. One major injury from their top guys can hinder Jesuit). Like I’m just saying Mountain View has potential to do some serious damage coming this season.

Bold of you to assume 3 teams from California will be going to NXN this year. Did you forget that other regions dominated the California region at NXN in 2024?

At-larges are only given to the best regions. There are only 4 at-larges. Those at-larges should go to the regions that have the better teams. Northeast, Midwest, Southwest, Northwest and South region all have better teams last year. There is no fair reason why California is justified in having an at-large this year. It should not happen.
Regarding california teams competing at woodbridge:
California has 5 teams with the potential of competing with the out of state teams. Jesuit, Beckman, Mira Costa, Mountain View and Vacaville.
The best bets are Mira Costa and Mountain View. They are more experienced and have performed well on this course in 2024.
I think Jesuit would get humbled here. But that mostly because their guys are coming back from injuries. That is just what sjsglazer was always saying on these threads.
Vacaville is too new and inexperienced. Their runners are young so they will be more dangerous at the end of the season. Same thing happened with Jesuit in 2024.
Herriman, Bridgeland, Southlake Carroll, Jesuit LA, CDA, Crater will most likely come out on top. Those programs have the best coaches and talent in the nation.

What about Woodbridge? You know, the team that actually hosts the invitational and probably runs there year round, with one of the best rising juniors in the nation? I don't know if this will allow them to beat out of state powerhouses, but it would be ridiculous to ignore them as a factor in their own race as they come into form.

Jesuit LA over Jesuit CA?
I don’t know about that
Also, How cool would it be if Jesuit OR was at Woodbridge too?

And what about Matilda Torres? They were 1 spot away from making NXN last year (based on the final merge) and they bring most of their guys back

If on Vacaville was racing Clovis- it seems they always opt of Clovis and go to roughrider instead. It would be cool to see how Vacaville and Campolindo stack up against the best teams in the state at Clovis though (personally Vacaville, Campolindo, San Clemente, and Mountain View have the best potential in the state- emphasis on potential)
Matilda Torres was 2 spots away, not one (that would go to Oaks Christian)- though they are looking pretty solid.
According to this video, the #4 team in the power merge was Matilda Torres. For the power merge, they take the top 16 or 20 teams from the original merge, and they rescore the teams, which determines what teams go to NXN.

With this transfer, could St Francis MV possibly qualify for NXN this year? They only graduated 2 seniors and they took 6th in the merge at the state meet last year

Mira Costa has great 1600 times but we need to see how that translates to XC.
Their 3200 returning times are #8 in CA. They seem to be better at the 1600 than XC

Will Bilodeau have an SOP? If so, he won’t be eligible to compete until Clovis.
