Wide World of Sports is aware after speaking with an informed source that the 47-year-old was struggling physically over several weeks leading in and doing little training.

Lisa Weightman, who was qualified for selection but not chosen in a controversy that rocked Australian athletics in May, told Wide World of Sports that her camp had enquired with Athletics Australia (AA) on July 23 regarding the physical condition of Diver.

"I prepared for it thinking there was a high probability of being called up," Weightman, who was chosen as the reserve, told Wide World of Sports on Sunday.

AA was contacted for comment but said it couldn't, citing that Diver was under the AOC's team. Later in the day, AA shared the AOC's statement on social media.

So we're supposed to be believe a professional athlete who's run 2:21 and was apparently fully fit and ready to go could not run 4 minutes at 3:20-30 pace without BOTH quads cramping up??
Sinead's obviously been trying to hide this (very poorly) for months and the best thing she could've done is step aside so a fit Lisa could have a crack. This is all on Sinead and her coach Nic.

I'm sure she has some contractual bonus tied to starting the marathon today but I do not care.

Hopefully we don't see her on another Australian team.

I’m genuinely horrified at all of this. AA’s lies, Sinead faking the injury, not subbing in Lisa when she was fit and ready to go. The list is endless. Shame on all of those involved.

Brett did a very good thing by withdrawing when clearly injured and allowing Andy to take his place. Sinead, however, has buried herself into a total hole by doing what she’s done. A whole new level of disrespectful behaviour. I really hope Lisa goes after (and gets) the national record now.

Expand on the “so called” phrase here. Are you suggesting Nic isn’t his real name?

Is Callum Davies one of them? He always seems to be pacing these Daimond league meets. To be fair he's worked out very well as a pacer. He's consistently done an excellent job.

Yes Callum is MTC. Has been a good pacer, that's not to say there aren't 50 other better pacers who would love that payday.

They were just raising what has been speculated on here and other places not knowing if it was true or not and suggesting it would all come out over time.

In other words they were doing what they're paid to do.

She just said that Sinead has had a tough lead in ect, implied heavily that they all knew she was injured, had a hug pre race and said no matter what we are proud.

"Sinead's not here to talk for herself, but all I can say is she's obviously had a tough prep but she never made it about her, she never complained to us, she just has been one of the most supportive teammates I've ever had, and I love her," Gregson said.

She then went on to say they just said to Sinead something like 'whatever happens out there we are proud of you.' They all knew.

Oh would you look at that, AA have deleted their update off Facebook. I wonder why???? What a train-wreck...

I’m absolutely devastated to have had to dnf at my second Olympic Games💔. I was dealing with a plantar issue in the lead in to this race. It was manageable and I was training, fit and ready to race. That had nothing to do with why I pulled out.
In the warm up, my quads started to spasm without any warning. I hoped it would resolve as I started running but it didn’t and they seized up within the first km to the point that I couldn’t bend my knees. I don’t fully understand what’s caused this.
The lead in to this race has been one of the most challenging times of my life. The vitriol online has had a significant impact on my mental health and I have no doubt that has played a part in my body breaking down in this way. The culmination of stress over the last few weeks has finally taken its toll.
I’m aware of some of the negative commentary during & since the race but this time I’m not going to listen. This is what happened. If you choose not to believe it, then so be it.
Thank you to everyone else who has shown kindness & empathy and sent messages of support to acknowledge that we are all human and sometimes things happen that are out of our control, no matter how hard we try.
A massive thank you to my friends and family who travelled to Paris to support me. And to everyone on the @athleticsaustralia team who helped and supported me as much as possible yesterday.

Mental health stress from online trolls caused her quads to cramp up one KM into a Marathon. OK. I have heard it all now.

Telling lies that insult the intelligence of the running community is not going to get you out of the hole you have dug for yourself.

Be honest. Be transparent. Don't once again, just like the first episode of the Road to Paris somehow make out that you are the victim in all of this.

I can't believe she is choosing this path, to make it even worse that is needs to be.
