Nah. Sieradzki hit the prescribed 800m split (1:51) bang on. And they had lights. If Jakob's there, that third lap goes at least 56 and the final lap at least 55 and they're under 3:30.
They got essentially 630 meters of pacing due to the ineptitude of Matthew Ramsden. It's actually impressive they kept it on for a 3:30 race. Jakob or not that thing was doomed to be 3:30+

Did you watch the race? They slotted behind the second pacer (Ramsden). He fell off Sieradzki's pace and then dropped out leaving them on an island. Kerr got no drafting assistance and split 1:52.1 with the 100 segment from 600-700 (14.5 split) where Ramsden started faltering as his slowest of the race.
Let's see if Kerr is just the next guy or something special here or not.
This field is loaded.
You got your answer. Wasn’t so smiley at the end with his oversized sunglasses, was he? Great to see that doughy Scot get beat. He’s been made out to be some kind of hero or underdog- he’s not. Josh cares only about Josh- no one else.
A little disappointed with the winning time because I wanted to show some random poster it was silly to guarantee no sub-3:30s without Jakob in the race. But what an awesome finish for Nuguse - 2nd Diamond League win of the season (in other words, he’s won both DL 1500s that Jakob hasn’t been in).
Nuguse already has 4 of the 8 fastest 1500 times in U.S. history.
No sub-3:30 without Jakob: you can take it to the bank. No one else has the ability/balls to push the third lap when the pacer drops
Girma keep a vierge register in the 5000m since he DNF from the race.
We will get an idea about his program the next year.
A lot of runners are tired or less motivated this end of the season.
Its easy for us to criticize them but none know the impact of pressure of World Championship.
I like Girma, but he should be focused on building up his strength and improving his hurdling so he can beat El Bakkali. It's cool that he is competitive on the flat and especially good at the 3,000, but chasing after an Ethiopian team in the 5,000 is not worth his while.
It will be difficult for him to beat El Bakkali because El Bakkali has an excellent aerobic and has far superior hurdles Technic. If you look at the race Girma wast a lot of energy when jumping.
El Bakkali said in a TV interview two days ago that he was keeping some distance from Girma to avoid hurts/falls and he was ready for whatever tactic used by Girma.
So the real question: what the plan of Girma the next year?
For me Kechelja, Aregawi and Barega are burned Ethiopian cards and Girma a double recordman in 2023 that beat the current 1500m World Champion in his second try in the distance.

Yes, and Jakob doesn't let that happen. He either drops Ramsden or forces the pace himself. Collectively, the field had nothing to make it a sub-3:30 race, and Kerr was aiming for significantly faster, if his pre-race comments are to be taken at face value. It's no coincidence that all these guys ran their sub-3:30s in races behind Jakob. He's the third lap pacer they need

I mean yes fine is it possible Jakob would be alert to Ramsden's BS and surge by him to reach Sieradzki? Possibly, but that doesn't mean it is on Kerr to do so. Jakob has maybe the best sense of pace of anyone. That doesn't excuse away the worse pacing we've seen on the Diamond League all year. It badly contributed to a slower winning time than was possible.

Simply, Kerr was unable to push the 3rd lap without anyone in front of him. It’s as simple as that. Blaming no paver being present is not really an excuse in my opinion.

Yeah what's hard is when you are out there on a guy's shoulder (in this case it would be Ramsden), you are so focussed on it it can be tough to realize what's happening, which in this case it was him inexplicably dying after 650m when you believe he should be getting you to 1000m.
I do think what probably happens if J.I is there and reasonably in form, he can mitigate that and still get the field to 1200m in 2.47.5 (Kerr runs a 57.2 to get them there in 2.48.4) and then close out in his customary 41.5 and run in the low 29's. Like I truly believe if he was there tonight they would have run under 3.30
I will say I don't think Matt Ramsden is getting his full fee for tonight (I guarantee he's not) and not sure if we will see him out there ever again pacing at this level. That was not just a bad job, that was an atrocious job. Kerr also had his moment as the WC to dominate a GL style race but couldn't - understandable after Budapest, but I get the feeling is a real championship runner anyways (which I think is really what you want to be).

I agree - it's not easy and there is only a select crew in history that have the ability at this level to do that. Jakob has it, Kerr doesn't. But on the flipside Kerr has proven himself to be an extremely savvy and successful championship/finals racer which some might argue is a better thing to be, especially as LED lights will never exist in finals and willing pacemakers for 1200m+ are few and far between.

He ran the third lap (which should have had 150-200m of pacing and had 0) in a pretty respectable 56.4. But all the work from the front including having to pick it up at 650 after Ramsden obstructed him meant he only came home in 42 for the last 300 as opposed to more like 40 like we saw at Worlds. Nuguse ran 1512.5m and closed in 13.3. Gritty effort to win.
To me, Laros' last 50 meters was most impressive. I watched him go from second to last to about fifth by swinging wide and motoring by about six guys. Crazy.
He looked faster than all of them over the last 50m.

I obviously believe Jakob is superior in a paced race and I’d find him most likely to generate a sub-3:30. Just think that this was an exceptionally bad pacing job. Kerr did run a commendable 56.4 split from 800-1200. He just had no kick which isn’t crazy considering how much Ramsden screwed him. With a competent second pacer I bet the top 2 hits 3:29. Unsure on Kipsang who looked a little flat out there, but a professional effort nonetheless.
Grant Fisher another runner showing the power of cross training.
if you feel something coming on, get on the damn elliptical (or whatever x training is ideal for your situation). You will remain fit, and you won't be injured!
Another month of running on the ground, maybe he can stay on Kejelcha.
