I feel like someone is afraid to remind these track stars that 99.9 % of the US has no idea who they are. What kind of pressure does Tom Brady or Pat Mahomes have? A million times more and 99% of the people know who you are. You can't even leave home. She is virtually anonymous. I just think the pressure is so self infected. For the second time in a decade, track has an athlete dominating the W800 who seems more interested in creating drama than the event itself. Compare to the beautiful legacy of the M800 and.Coe, Kipketer and Rudisha. Pretty sad state of affairs.

You need to understand a couple things. (1) For the average person, to see someone extremely blessed with talent and not use that talent is almost an ungodly act. (2) Qualifying to represent your nation on the global stage is a high honor; it is not just about yourself, it's about your country, family, friends and fans. (3) Mrs. Mu is an adult and a professional athlete, unfortunately at this level you just can't choose to take a sabbatical. - With all of that said, I suspect Mu is dealing with anxiety and is questioning whether she can win gold...that is the result of not competing.

I'm very confident Mu doesn't care at all about this and there is no way she will compete as long as Mutola did.

Which makes it more absurd, not less, to skip the ONLY major championship of the year, instead of one of the four majors.

If you point is that track athletes don't care about fans and sponsors because there are fewer fans and less money, that validates the comment that track is not taken seriously as a pro sport.

But my point is not whether someone skips an event. It is about how that is announced to the public. Tennis players skip majors for various reasons, but their coaches won't tell the media "maybe she will play, or maybe she will take vacation." That's totally unprofessional, and makes mockery of their sport.

I don't know if her contract has a reduction clause, but I think it has a bonus clause for World Championship medals. So she is leaving a lot of money on the table by not running in Budapest. That's assuming she will be in top three if she competes.

Swimmers get $12,000 for the first place prize. But that's only one man and one woman for the entire meet, not first place in each race.

The season winner gets $100,000. But this is also for the top swimmer overall, and not in each event.
