In The Aftermath Of Newbury Park, Ventura Leads A New Landscape In CaliforniaBy Doug Binder, DyeStat EditorBoys California PreviewAll of the major players at Newbury Park, primarily the Youngs and Sahlmans, have graduated and...
How did I miss Barker transferring? Thats a bigger pick up than Tiffany Sax or any of the three kids to JSerra. Is Trabuco Hills a good program this year?
Saint Francis’ CCS Matthew Mullane just defeated 8:49 Grant Morganfield by 12 seconds. I researched Mullane and he ran 16:50 at last years state meet at Woodward Park. This past spring the fastest 3200 I found for him was 9:52.
The question is was Morganfield sandbagging or is Mullane going to be contender for NXN.
I know I said pre-season rankings don't matter, and they don't.
The good news is the Woodbridge start list has 9 of the top 10 California teams. That will give us so much new data that it will make all the pre-season rankings irrelevant.
I see the start list has 34 teams in the sweepstakes race! This will favor teams with a strong top 5, and I would predict Great Oak and Mira Costa to do better than dyestat ranked them. And these are all quality teams across all divisions and even some out of state, so the scoring is more similar to the "Cal power merge", only with more teams. This favors a strong top 5 even more.
Ventura results. FastHorse, Grossman, and DeGeorge weren’t racing. Looks like both Sloans are eligible to run varsity already although they transferred from NP
Appears that Newbury Park was missing Doshi and their transfer Herrera. Great Oak was missing both Rodriguez brothers and still won the boys sundown showdown race. Newbury Park took second in it
Not good!?!?!? They looked shockingly bad. You’re being nice
The Newbury Park new coach is in a hard place. He has to take over the best program in HS history. He will get by this year because they will make it through on fumes and do par. Next year will be almost impossible and that’s when you’ll see the big decline. This is Arcadia all over again.
Great Cow run - Glendora (in the rated race at Woodbridge), beat Palisades (in the sweepstakes race) by a good margin, and both teams were at full strength from what I could tell. Glendora went 1,3,7,9 with juniors. A team to watch in the Woodbridge rated race.
Riverside Showcase - Beckman already looked much stronger with the transfer of Nguyen to make a very strong top 3, but it appears their 4-7 has closed the gap which makes them another interesting team to watch in the Woodbridge sweepstakes race. Yes, it hard to tell in a short and lightly contested race how true that is, and no, they aren't coming close to winning, but they might make the California top 10 now.
