The early pace was too much for Sahlman. A slightly more reserved pace would have allowed him to be more connected. I think in the right conditions and right pacing he could go 3:55, maybe even high 3:54. Still, a good performance.
Both have their strengths rn, but its clearly Jakob > Everyone else. Teare and Hocker are both medal threats if they can figure out how to get good positioning late in the race and outkick the pack of Hoare, Cheruiyot, Kipsang, Katir, Heyward, Kerr etc. Today they were completely boxed in.
Great showing by OAC this meet! Klecker's first national title, Monson 2nd, and Hoare beating everyone except Jakob who looks like he's just on another level right now.
Hocker looks like he's getting his kick back, I'm not sure if he has any other competition for the national title now given how much he just beat Teare by.

Hocker was passed by Hoare, who was also moving to lane 3 to pass Cheri and Kipsang. Don’t talk to us about medal threats when they don’t race.
Hocker was boxed, but if he had a kick left he could easily have used it. He did not - was making little progress in the last 200. What makes you think he will he improve relatively by the summer?
