Centro??? I'm about 17 years older than Centro, and my 1500 is around 2 minutes slower than Centro's. You've got to be kidding.

Centro actually has a lot of fans,(from his accomplishments on the track, not from a fake presence on social media) he doesn't need to make an account to defend himself. He has his fans do this for him. What's funny is this chat isn't even on the front page of Letsrun anymore and you guys are still letting Centro live in your minds rent free. I'm here because I can actually admit that I'm a genuine fan of his. Being the 2nd American 1500m olympic gold medalist in history is very rare. You guys would give almost anything to have that. But you don't have it so trying to go after the most accomplished American 1500m runner in history is your only other option.

Look bud, I think Christmas is a c*ck too like I said earlier, but centro looks like a tool as well. I know stoppit is a longtime hobby jogging lurker on here. The fact people like you take this so seriously and belittle anyone who even suggests that what centro did isn’t perfect is alarming. Objectively the guy looks like an idiot. Show any non-runner the comments on that post- I have, and they all thought centro looks like a whiny loser. Not Olympic gold medal conduct

Unfortunately, gold medal doesn't equal upstanding citizen or maturity. See Asbel Kiprop, for one. Or if we want to go down the rabbit hole, Klete Keller ...

Only LetsRunners diminish his gold bc anyone outside the small (elite, sub-elite, obsessed hobbyjogger) distance running community is most likely still impressed.

Wish he was more mature and focused on prepping for the trials, but he's only human.

I am taking it seriously because I'm a big fan of his. But you are taking it seriously too. The difference is I can admit that I have an interest in Centro's accomplishments. I know you do too that's why you're here despite this not even being on the front page anymore. And give me a break, other athletes/celebrities have lashed out at people who come across as disrespectful. You just choose to focus on Centro because he's very confident and sometimes cocky, yes. But you don't understand where the Centro fans are coming from, HE CAN ACTUALLY BACK UP HIS COCKINESS WITH HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS ON THE TRACK. A lot of us and most likely even you want to be like him. Being an Olympic champion doesn’t mean that you’re above criticism or that people can’t/won’t make fun of you online. Quite frankly, it’s pathetic that Centro is so insecure about his accomplishments that he has to belittle some random kid from Oregon over a two word Instagram post. His resume speaks for itself. And I’m going to repeat myself that no self-respecting professional athlete from any other sport would respond the way he did.

All he had to do was not reply, or maybe clap back with something lighthearted. Instead he overreacted and exposed his own fragile ego. He needs to get over himself. Responding the way he did just incentivizes people to take shots at him because it’s clear he’s easily rattled.

Kipchoge doesn’t give a sh1t what any of us think about him and would never respond to college kids poking at him online by getting defensive and flaunting all of his career accomplishments. It’s below him.

Nope I'm just a Centro fan, that's what fans(in any industry) do when they go after the person who they admire. There's nothing wrong defending the person you look up to. People do it to other athletes and celebrities. It's alright to do it in track too, especially if we want the sport to get bigger. I'm okay with listening to the criticism, and understand where some people are coming from with how Centro got flustered. But that's what happens when you're actually accomplished on the track. You get fans. Get used to it, if we want the sport to get bigger, fans need to be a factor.

He didn’t just go to the track though, did he? Not everyone who wins a gold medal gets triggered by a walk-on saying “your move”. In fact, most don’t. That’s why people have pointed out how pathetic it is. Pretty simple.

Relatedly with your second sentence. Not everyone who gets triggered wins a gold medal do they? Do I agree with his actions? Not really. Does he have the hardware to back it up? Yep.

How does hardware back up petty insecurity? Does Michael Jordan go around trashing UNC walk-ons because he has the hardware to back it up? Or does he realize such is beneath him precisely because he has the hardware?

Sure Centro could have ignored it but let's be real, it is disrespectful to subtly imply, on a keyboard, that this guy is at Centro's level. If I was Centro, I'd feel a bit disrespected by cheap talk comments such as this. Not respecting or diminishing the accomplishments of someone who has achieved a lot more than you is kind of disrespectful. Potential is irrelevant, results matter.

But Hocker IS on Centro's level. He just ran almost the exact same as Centro's best mile ever, but he did it on an indoor track while Centro's was on an outdoor track. Plus Cole has already demonstrated a mean kick, and Centro is past his prime. Cole is already faster than Centro and if he keeps up this progression then in a year he'll be faster than Centro ever was.

You say it's pathetic, but how pathetic is it really? This isn't Cooper Teare challenging him, but Carter Christman. You have to at least feel for him that he is viewed with so little respect at his Alma Mater that he is being called out by the also-rans on the team. It does and should ring differently if it was Grijalva, Teare, or Hunter. They are competing at the top. But you honestly don't think he should stand up for his respectability to someone like Christman?
