That link showed that EPS is calculated by dividing Net Income by Shares. Another link showed that Net Income is the same as Earnings. Thus we can conclude that EPS is also accurately described as Earnings divided by Shares.

Some readers on this thread may remember I made a naïve projection of future S&P 500 based on ~ 50 years or so of prior data, and it looked like this:

There would have been an 80% probability the trend should stay confined between the 10% and 90%ile curves, and it has done so, thus far.
I might add that the most likely value around the end of the year is ~ 2800, or very close to what it is right now, so the "most likely" expectation for the next six months is a flat market. Of course, this is based on an entirely naïve analysis of past trends, and takes no consideration of current events and market forces. It's far more likely that something very different than that will happen, but I wouldn't want to hazard a guess what that will be... :-)
