University of Tennessee former Director of Track and Field program did very well but that got her canned. It had to he a popularity contest or others lobbying for change. I don't forsee Tennessee finishing top 3 in the next three years. I hope that I am wrong. Ross is a good coach and does fantastic. I hope this AD is patient with him.

Why would the AD be patient when he's making 500k and the previous coach came third in the nation.

You don't get that opportunity unfortunately when you are in that situation. Not to mention that the cross county team is more then carrying their weight for him

Sounds like the former coach should still be employed. He has to be dominant in the sprint, Hurdles, relays and jumps to win a national title. On the women side you're competing with Florida, Texas, LSU, Arkansas, and Oregon no particular order. They are definitely not winning a cross country title.

Position says they are looking for Asst XC/track and field coach but with preferred Multi experience. They adding to coaching roster or did someone leave?

They came third in the SEC and won their region in year one. I don't know how that tells you they won't win an xc title. If Carlson keeps recruiting like he did this year it'll happen sooner rather then later.

You can also get a boat load of points in indoor especially so no Ross doesn't need to be dominant in all areas he actually has a leg up on Texas, LSU and Florida because they have an elite distance program while those schools do not. I agree about BAS she most likely should be especially since she did more with fewer resources while there.

My assumption is if Ross isn't podiuming on at least one of the two sides by year 3 he is most likely gone

Did you say she got canned for getting top 3? What you should be saying is that she was so smug and/or tiresome that she lost of confidence of her athletes, parents, staff, alumni, community and admin that they let her go in SPITE of getting 3rd. She will spread all kinds of excuses, but she knows. She has burned too many bridges and charged forward in her belligerent way so as to piss off enough people that it finally caught up to her. Loyalty is one way for her. Don't drink the BAS kool-aid. She is slick with it, but everyone eventually learns, sooner or later, that as soon as you have nothing to offer, she will turn you out or turn on you. I have seen her hypnotize some really smart coaches and athletes, but eventually her true colors bubble up to the surfaces.

Javelin is a one season event. Not many programs choose to allocate a full scholarship to a one season athlete, let alone hire a javelin coach. Multis all throw javelin though.

Keep dreaming. Their distance ain't getting them over the hump for a national title on the track not in the next three years. Ore

If you dig deep enough into any coach, you will find things you don't like. All the other touchy stuff is a cop out. Results matter. Please understand that Coach Ross is demanding and he ain't going to kiss butts with parents, staff, community etc.. You will find complaints in every programs. Coach Ross is a great coach but pay attention to how he moves at meets etc.. he definitely ain't scared to step toes and make people uncomfortable. As a former athlete my best coaches were folks I hated but the worst coaches were soft and friendly. Winners are hard to work with lovers are easy to work with, they accept anything.

I hope you are not a coach….with this perspective. This is a really messed up perspective and completely false. An athlete hating their coach is a failure for the coach. I am sorry that you have not been around any elite coaches who actually know how to be positive and win. It’s possible but not easy for those with a lower IQ.

I hope you're not a coach and you were definitely not an elite athlete for sure. For you to not understand the nuisance of hating your coaches at some point and taking it as hating them daily says you have never been in a highly competitive environment. The New England Patriots will probably go down as one of the most storied teams ever the Coach is not a bad guy but many on their athletes will say I hated being coached by Bill at times. Being liked and likeable is very different. Elite people have very high standards and sometimes that makes feel people uncomfortable and it leads to them being not liked. Trust me you're not a good coach if at some point there is not some friction. Growth and challenges are uncomfortable. Some of the kids in this generation only know soft coaching, anything that challenge them results in I don't like that coach. Some of the best coaches have been accused of bullying etc.. lately because of the culture of coaching has changed to making everyone feel like a winner when they haven't done anything. Everyone doesn't have to be a hold hands how is your day going to get results. Some of the most successful coaches in this sport don't play around at all

The fact that you can't imagine a training environment that is not based on vitriol and hatred is really amazing. It's an incredibly broken world view, because it suggests that every top athlete, top team in every sport essentially hate what they're doing. You might want to consider talking to someone.
