Anyone with any knowledge of the collegiate sports world would know that the Oregon distance position is one of the best, if not the best in all the country. As coach of the Ducks you will get great recruits without working hard, you will be able to give them smaller scholarships since they want to compete at Hayward Field, and you have unlimited funds to work with. It is simply the best of the best position. Then why have so many top coaches who have been contacted about the position not take a chance? It says a lot about what is going on behind the doors. Oregon is floating around a HUGE salary but coaches who are making 50% less, or even 65% less are not biting. This says a lot. As was stated somewhere else on this message board, Robert Johnson did his due diligence by calling/contacting all the top distance coaches in the country to determine who might want the job. When they didn't want the job they told him of folks he should contact. Those folks backed out. It has to be one of the most interesting situations in the last many years. Anyone who goes to Oregon will become "the" best distance coach in the country by many in the media. So why is it still open and a very large number of folks turned it down?

Robert hasn't spoken to the guy who could do a great job for the school. A guy whose love for the sport is on daily display. A guy definitely under everyone's radar. A guy without a huge ego to threaten anyone. A guy who went to a school with its own crazy fan base for their teams. A guy who understands NIKE and the expectations from former Ducks.
Let's see if someone shows up suddenly with those qualities. He is out there.

Oregon is offering 200k+ for their distance coach. They've gotten turned down by several individuals now and are struggling to find one.
As the other poster pointed out, how does the #1 historic running school and easiest recruiting base with the highest paid assistant position in the country, struggle to find a coach?
Salazar/Nike are all over this. People are scared to join the mafia. Coaches don't want to be the underlying to Salazar.
