Word was out on Pendergast, but Danny Kilrea too. Count 'em, 11 coaches.
Ridiculous BAS and a staff of 6 were canned for a trophy, yet 22nd for Carlson/Ross gets them four staff additions.
The whole SEC is ludicrous at this point. A&M having a superstaff, lots of schools going to double digit coaches, and Arkansas’ mafia of scummy Ops guys constantly getting hammered at public events, it seems to be an arms race and a free for all.

For sure double-digit staffs will increase the competitive imbalance between the power conferences and the rest of Div 1. But, NCAA track staff size has always been way too small and wildly out of whack with other NCAA programs--nobody has the high athlete/coach ratios that track and field has. Staffs of 5-6 coaches and 80-100+ athletes means 15-20+ athletes for every coach. No other sport comes close to this lousy situation (unless you have crew on your campus--and with rowing all the athletes are doing exactly the same things all the time). A staff of 10-12 sounds about right to me. It sucks that most D1 staffs are going to remain too small, but I don't think it's crazy at all for a serious track program to have 12 coaches.

Hopefully it will allow for a little more life/work balance!

Agreed. So many mid majors have only 3 full time positions (sometimes 2) to cover 75+ athletes. It's insane. Schools can afford to pay a couple more coaches 30k/year. Meanwhile there's a 23 year old football grad assistant who gets that much in tuition every year in exchange for starting and stopping the game film.
the great part about this is. Things always seem to trickle down hill. So number of coaches on staff and hopefully salaries will follow suit. I say Thank You to them for doing this. Down the road the rest of the NCAA schools hopefully follow suit.
Do you really think salaries will increase while positions are being added? Vast majority of schools don't want to spend more money than they have to on our sport.
