I would argue a novel, possibly > 1% IFR respiratory viruses that overwhelmed hospitals in China ... is reason to be cautious until we known the dynamics better.
Almost all localities relaxed outdoor recommendations by ~late May 2020. I agree forcing people to train outdoor with masks on in fall 2020 and later was absolutely stupid and insane.
If the virus is so contagious that it can be transmitted by passing someone out in the open, then no kind of lockdown will work anyway and we may just as well save the trouble and let nature take its course.
That’s why I didn’t skip one single day of outdoor running, from the very start of the pandemic.
Did anywhere ever say “don’t go outside?” in my area we were encouraged to go outside but keep distance… and that was relaxed quickly…
Seems like we mostly agree, except;
There’s plenty of reason to try and slow down the first wave a very infectious and deadly virus - discover treatment options, let supply chains scale, run trials for figuring out viral dynamics. Not saying we great and any of these but the “no reason to aggressively mitigate a novel, high risk, disease” idea doesn’t really hold water.
reason to be cautious until we known the dynamics better.
But just go ahead and get an unnecessary and irreversible injection of a chemical and biological formulation being used in a mass vaccination campaign for the first time.
83 Million Americans exercised their medical freedom and took ZERO doses of that crap.
I see people all over wearing masks still... Your people. The CDC still recommends that anyone 6 months and up get regular mRNA vaccinations despite the growing body of evidence regarding vaccine injuries, especially myocarditis and pericarditis in young men. So no... This isn't over.
What does "your people" mean? I don't have people and I don't have a "stance" on Covid. It is over for me and boring for most of us. It is way past time to move on. Nobody is even talking about Covid anymore except the fringe people and the pharma companies that are trying to see boosters to make a buck. But I don't really listen to either of those groups...

Didn’t you literally just said it was reasonable to “discourage” outdoor activities in the first 4 weeks of pandemic? Jesus talk about some one in denial.

It's been over for me as well for some time. You could say it's endemic now... Someone ought to let the WHO know that. My concern at this point is holding the bad actors who demonstrably failed at all aspects of the response accountable. I know we live in a post accountability world, but that's how I see it.
Per the title, I went on my long run today and I saw a group of about 8 guys also long running. They all looked high school age and were clustered in a tight knit pack. I live in a suburban area in a large Midwestern state. At this point, is this acceptable or just plain stupid? I feel like I should have said something but I kept my mouth shut and ran by them at a careful 6 feet distance.
I literally don't understand what you are talking about. Why would this not be acceptable? You should at least list a reason.

I see. This was three years ago. Well, the post was misinformed then and we can see that clearly now. One of the very first things we knew about COVID (even before it came to the states) was that the risk of open air outdoor spread was practically nil.

"Misinformed" is the wrong word, "under-informed" would be better.
There simply wasn't much information on the risk of outdoor spread of Covid in April of 2020. There was a study from China at that time that traced one confirmed case to outdoor transmission so outdoor transmission was clearly possible, but there we didn't have a good handle on the probability of such.
We also didn't have a good handle on the severity or contagiousness of the virus at that time.
Knowing what we know now, things would have been handled differently, but that wasn't the reality at the time.

Sorry youre right, I meant to say outdoor group activities :)
I think it's always insane to force people to stay indoors. Unless they have like ebola... you know?

Yeah it's called vaccination?
Certainly better than the unnecessary and irreversible changes caused by a viral infection!
I genuinely view anyone who supported lockdowns and cancelling sports, graduations, weddings, life events etc as sub humans. I remember being villainized for wanting to simply go out to eat. The op that wrote this thread is a trash person. Also letsrun mods you are cowards for deleting my post yesterday about how I loved people bumping old covid restriction threads.

I bumped most of those threads. We need to be reminded of the Orwellian madness. I even found one where an "expert" had determined that common house cats could infect a person with Covid-19. The fearmongering was relentless, but unfortunately at that time, the absurdity was obscured.

Translation:
”my proclamations of doom were being laughed for years at on the many vaccine threads, so I craved more attention…”
And, yes, covid proved once again for the millionth time that people by and large are idiots, particularly the ones who don't know they're idiots. No one should be telling others what they can and can not without knowing FOR SURE that they are correct (and in regards to covid, they had no idea). F'ing stupid arrogant people.
