Olympic and world champion Asbel Kiprop has tested positive

Well, that's all part of Seppelt's 2014/2015 stories. Some reports directly say so, and you can do the math yourself from the data. Overall 1 of 7 had suspicious blood values, and 1/3 of the medal winners. So, medal winners are more than twice as suspicious. Sources? There are literally 100s. These two will come in a few days, after most here have moved on, and claim that a) Kiprop doped only once b) he was slower when doped than before c) EPO does therefore not work on certain... d) the Rosas have noting to do with that, nothing to see here.

Yup, just seeing that now, thanks. Kind of subdued but what else can we expect him to say at this point.

This news is too bad but I am glad to see that testing is starting. I would not come to sweeping conclusions about all East African runners. Maybe some groups are suspect but I hope and think many EA runners are clean. Standardized testing is needed for all elites. It should be a cost of doing business / entering competition.

I imagine there are some groups in all countries that will try to cheat. Some countries may have more systematic doping. This is progress.

Food for thought: Kiprop was listed on IAAF's likely doping list, where follow-up tests were specifically requested. Pre-comp, not ooc. Tee hee.

Several others on the list appeared to be much more suspicious, judging by the amount of follow-up tests requested (and stars given).

Just a real pity for Kiprop that his doorbell was working that day.

I would suggest they are all dirty. That's how it goes with agents like this. You are either on board with the program or you aren't and if you aren't willing to dope you ain't gonna make any money so you're useless to the Rosa's. I'm actually surprised they haven't been knocked off given how many lives they've F'd over.

He had run 1,200 meters in 2:47… at 7,300 feet … in training. Not one member of his training squad was even remotely close to him when he crossed the line. But as some of Iten’s finest athletes came staggering down the homestretch, Asbel had already started his watch and began jogging around the track. Seven minutes later, he was back on the line and ready to tackle the 4 x 400-meter segment of the workout. Every single quarter was run in under 55 seconds by Kiprop, going 54, 53, 54, 54. Once again, Asbel was basically on his own, as all other members of his team had either tapped out or struggled to keep the pace under a minute. Finally, after another seven-minute break, Asbel showed off his speed. He ran four 200s, on only 50 seconds rest, in 23 seconds each.

So the full workout was as follows:

4 x 400 (:50 rest): 54, 53, 54, 54

4 x 200 (:50 rest): 23, 23, 23, 23"

I love how Deanouk doesn't chime-in on these because he knows Coe was dirty as hell and in the same boat but got away with it... for now. Heard there is a book coming.

Can't say I'm surprised. I always thought Kiprop was selectively doping. He's a fixture at Monaco which are basically all-out time trials where the effects of doping are most obvious. One year, he runs 3:26 and makes it look easy. Other years he struggles to run sub-3:30. It's the ease with which he ran his fastest times that I consider suspicious.
