The 3:12 wasn't a marathon. It was a 24 mile race that Phan was trying to pass off as her marathon PR.

But as others have said, it's possible to be good at 135 miles but nothing special at marathon distance. Older women can get good at longer distances as it's endurance more than strength.

In a few years time Sandra could well become a decent multi day runner. It's just nothing suggests this yet and she doesn't have the experience.

Yes, she could easily have done a more basic trans con with less frills and crew

Mimi Anderson is about to kick off her run.

it would be interesting to find out what her planned costs are and how big a crew she's using.

of course she's established a name and brand in ultra running over a long period of time so she brings personal sponsorship to the table from the get go.

At the end Mimi Anderson was Sandra's problem too.

All the potential sponsors of Sandra Vi probably googled that straight away.

Wow, that's unexpected. Sandra has a different crew and was able to organize a back up run in a short a of time. Different website, too. GPS data will be uploaded to Strava daily just like with Mimi Anderson.

I'm not sure what to think right now until we figure out what Mimi Anderson's connection is with Ben Rogers. As of this moment, Sandra has a cleaner background than Mimi and I think her run will be legit.

this doesnt seem like the sort of thing you can throw together in a week though so perhaps Sandra realised a while ago that Trasie Phan had no effing idea what she was doing.

From nuisance to comedy -- is that guy going to list his heart rate?

Per that video, it seems as if Sandra Vi will be starting the cross country run on Monday, September 11. After all the grief she gas been getting, I hope she makes it.

She was the first female finisher in the Badwater 135 mile race. You have to admit, that is a pretty big deal. What she maybe should have done was go to Minnesota and run the Arrowhead 135 which is run in the bitter cold of winter. If she won those two, the next step would be travel to Brazil for their mountainous 135 mile ultramarathon. If she could pull that off, she would have no problem getting sponsors. Shoe companies, apparel, energy drinks, etc. would flock to her if it she was properly marketed.

Wow, this is weird.

I guess they got some money from somewhere but probably not $90000.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

I can't imagine that Sandra is able to run an average of 50 or 55 miles per day but we will see.

You can't control your competition but her winning time is so far behind the others in the last 8 years!

It's a great win for her. You can only against those who show up.

But it's also not one of the greatest performances overall. Also you have to mention that now for a couple of years they do night starts at Badwater which should improve the times significantly.

Badwater is not famous for having lots of good running competition. Sometimes great runners showed up but it's more a tight nit community of not so good runners who like to pretend they are world class in the "toughest race on earth".

Sandra's data for the 55.6 miles for her first day of the transcon looks good with an average heart rate of 152 BPM. This is much more realistic than the 177 BPM average Mimi Anderson was doing today in her Strava data. I wonder if there is something seriously wrong with the heart rate functionality in Mimi's Suunto watches compared to the Garmin Sandra is using.
