He is so clearly better than the rest of the field. When he realized the pacers were crap he just decided to win and boy did he make it look easy.

Precisely.
The pre-race article with Hunter and Tinman said that Hunter was planning to shadow Ben Blankenship -- well, Blankenship ran 3:53.xx, and if Hunter had been right with him, he would have had a good shot at the HS record. But Hunter was well behind Blankenship, Hunter at the back and Blankenship at the front throughout the race.

The only race is Asbel vs 3:26.00
^THIS... Monaco can't arrive soon enough.
Hunter should have been in the National Mile. There. I said it.
I don't think hunter could have gotten the record under any circumstances today. With a faster pace up front, he might have been 3:56.x

Was Blankenship in on that plan? Because he was there to race: he moved through the field, and put himself in the right position with 200m to go.
Hunter wanted to be dragged through Webb-style. He isn't ready for the hemming and hawing nature of tactical international race.

I'm sure he's disappointed, but, wow, what a season of high school running!
Two HS boys break 4 minutes at the same meet. We've now seen 4 minutes broken 5 times this year, and we're not done.
Hunter ran just fine, it's the stupid LR expectations that were wrong.
Very interesting. Well done to the Letsrun hype train again. I think I'll just leave this here...
Everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that the field is similar to last year and there is no reason that the elites will certainly run fast just because they can. Often, too many big dogs in one race turns it into a tactical affair. This is an Olympic year, times mean nothing these guys will want to win. 1:59 at ~810m will not be unusual.
Does anyone remember last year? Souleiman 1st in 3:51, Centro 2nd and Kiprop 3rd. You are living in a dream world if you think Drew will run 3:53 in a race like that.
Let's hope the race is more like that of 2014.
Good luck to him and I hope the race is fast, but there is a good chance it won't be. Kiprop does some strange things also.

Well that is his coach's fault.
This has been a cluster f,,,,k as said marine corp
Now that Leo has gotten old, American miling is Matthew Centrowitz and . . . that's it.
Hassan Mead was the only American who could run a decent 1500m at Oxy. The NCAA 1500m field is so dull that Clayton Murphy is stepping up rather than run against McBride and Shaq Walker.
Hunter and Slagowski (19 yo in a few days) are both old enough to be college freshmen (as was Maton when he ran his HS sub-4). Fisher has gone for the 5000m.
Get healthy Centro.

3:53. Ummmm....ya. Cue the apologists.
I don't think anyone honestly thought he had a shot at it. He doesn't he's the innate speed that Webb had. But let's at least admit the pace was slow and likely cost him 2 seconds in time. I was disappointed with the overall race

Pace was slow for Kiprop, wasn't slow for Hunter. Hunter was right on pace, just didn't have anything for the last lap.

Don't forget Blank. He may not be able to close with the best of them, but he's got guts, taking the lead with 300 to go. Dude's getting fit.

yep. Anyone else think he didn't look very smooth (upper body looked tight and he was rocking back and forth)? I don't remember that from XC.

Because she is a client of Max.
If she doesn't make the final at the Trials, can Max still insert her in the relay pool?
Legit question - will SRR be selected for relay pool if she barely makes Trials final? Remember you have to consider (certain) IM hurdlers and 200 runners for the relay pool.
Kendra Harrison was obviously the story of the day, but Faith Kipyegon and Tori Bowie look big going forward.
Tori could be favored in 100/200/4x100. Shelly Ann Fraser looks bad, which opens the door for both the 100 and 4x100. The other presumable relay legs for US women's 4x100, Gardner and Prandini, also looked very good today. So that relay should be in great shape, assuming Allyson is ready to go. The only Jamaican woman running fast right now is Elaine Thompson. The way Bowie is running that is going to be a tough anchor to beat.
Kipyegon ran another national record sizzler after a slow paced second lap. She definitely has more speed. Don't know why they had Chanelle Price lead her to 1000m, I think it cut a couple seconds off what Faith could have done.
As for Harrison, she deserves all the accolades, but don't assume she will shatter that WR because she got close today. Hurdles are a very unpredictable event. I would love to see her do, but it's a tough record.
hope I someday get to see the race for fourth place, it looked exciting. could not tell how Rowbury looked at the end.
Different runner peak at different times. We know that Jenny trains in Colorado, no need to peak until later in the season. The times were reasonable.
