Nike's Global Director of Athletics John Capriotti Threatened To Kill Brooks Beasts Head Coach Danny Mackey At 2015 USAs

Is Mark Parker embarrassed when he sees all this? He should be.

Capriotti is apparently a world class jerk, but I'm having trouble figuring out what criminal charge could successfully be pressed here. Despite the colorful language, Mackey didn't seem to perceive any kind of genuine imminent threat to his safety. I think the obvious implication is that Capriotti threatened to "finish" Mackey professionally in retaliation for some unspecified statements made about Capriotti. Childish, out of control, and (we hope) a source of embarrassment: yes; likely to result in a criminal charge and a "guilty" verdict: unlikely.

Perhaps a more important question is, What does the University of Oregon think about this? Not the athletic department, but the university itself. I assume there are at least a few people within the administration who are not too comfortable with the overly cozy relationship between the university and the swoosh, and such an incident, on university property, could be fodder for them to use to push back against Nike.

If he hasn't been fired from Nike yet, that would be a scandal in itself. Imagine threatening to kill someone & assaulting someone while acting in the capacity of your job..,would anyone really expect to still be employed?!!

I was both Mark's friend and a training partner when I was in grad school at Penn State. Every time I see some of things that Nike does, I just shake my head and can't believe it, because that wasn't the Mark Parker I knew. But actions do speak louder than words and I guess that the roar of money is deafening.

I assume, Malmo, that you also knew him as well, at least peripherally, since he was there before you graduated in '78. Yes/no?

I went to school with Parker for four years. We both graduated in 1977. He was the cross country team's volunteer manager. I don't know Parker, nor do any of my teammates know him. He was unremarkable in every way. He was a quiet man. In four years I don't think he spoke four words.

To mash two threads together, on easy days, Parker (a 29:30 5 mile best) was the guy who would jump to the lead of the pack as we ran through campus -- with the rest of us grinning and rolling our eyes over his predictable move.

I have no idea why he would keep people like Salazar and Capriotti. I would have fired both after their misconduct over the last year. Nike Running needs to be re-booted from top-down.

At least he removed the stench of Joe Paterno's name off of the Nike Child Care Center. It took a lot of guts to do this. Uber-sports-groupie Phil Knight would have never done this.

I boycotted Nike after they re-signed that psycho Michael Vick, the prick.

Either way, any idiot knows Adidas make the lightest, most durable, best sports shoes. Nike trainers are purely designed for marketing purposes/gimmicks - they're made of cheap/weak materials which fall apart and they're often shaped like Capriotti's chin - a banana!

As for Mackey - I would've called BS and hit the weak old fart Capriotti so hard his banana head would've straightened. Convicted Nike heavy, Stark, then would have the old adage about broken bones growing back stronger tested as I two-footed his spastic right leg.

It seems Nike is run by psychopaths - no wonder athletics and other Nike-invested sports are drug-ridden. They clearly seek to cover up all PED use to make money from their stars' freakish superhuman feats.
