BTW getting a massage defintely seperates the Yups from the BCRs. I just want to know why a service academy grad is considered a Yuppie over an Ivy League grad.

Then by your definition, this would categorize every top American runner from the 1970's on as a yuppie.

What convinces everybody that a yuppie runner is going to have a lesser work ethic when it comes to running than a blue collar running? The majority of "yuppies" come from families that work hard and are successful; they didn't inherit copious sums of money. This work ethic carries over to running. Are all of you people bashing "yuppie" runners telling me than an investment worker or medical resident pulling 80-90 hour weeks doesn't know anything about hard work?

BCR : this fall's marathon was just a training run for Boston.
YR: Trains hard for constant self-improvement.
BCR: Unionizes with other runners to see if they can collectively bargain with race directors to give all of them a nice prize after races, regardless of individual performance. If not, they refuse to enter races.
YR: No prob forking over $30 for cookie cutter NYRR raceBCR: Forms own track club, raises $, talks to race directors, get prizes aka unionize.

No, that would be an Entreprenurial Runner (ER), who, if successful, would inherently be a YR. But even if not successful, they wouldn't be a BCR.
A BCR would join an existing track club for some reason stemming from lack of self-initiative or something close to laziness, such as 'a drinking buddy is joining and wants them to join.' Then the BCR would limit his/her involvement in the club to the bare minimum (clock in at 9, clock out at 5), file a grievance with the club union if they were ever asked to help out at a race, and then expect an equal distribution of prize money for all finishers of the race.
1st I like my orginal post about post fall marathon - the YR hangs up the trainers for the winter, BCR the fall marathon was my training run for Boston. That's how I looked at mine.
2nd Track clubs are non-profit. Entrepenures are not in it for non-profit. Believe it or not unions are non-profit. Forming a group of runners to get better races / conditions is more in the unionizing spirt then Entrepenurial.
3rd the whole YR v. BCR is about attidue. The lazy union worker isn't the BCR attidue. BCR is gutting it out, running gritty. So is git'r done. YRs like gadgets and pretty jackets.
4th you'er a Yuppy Home Oh and I would like to kick your a$$ in an upcoming road race.

Your first "point" made zero sense, so I can't even comment.
As for your second "point", someone who starts a non-profit (an enterprise) is an entrepreneur.
About your third point, the lazy union worker is definately blue collar, so certainly they are part of the blue collar attitude. So, just for the convenience of your argument you pick the "best" of the blue collar attitude and the "worst" of the yuppie attitude? In this process, you're ignoring the fact that the majority of the people in society who "git 'er done" - who actually create value - are people that you would label "yuppies." Meanwhile the blue collar workers are making sure they don't stay a minute after 5pm so they can rush to the bar after work.
And your fourth point says a lot about the "blue collar attitude". Excellent work...you're proving my point for me.

I'm a BC runner. Everyone who doesn't do what I do is a YR.

Maybe you're saying that BCR like to run races for the historical factor rather than fast courses? How does that work?

If we say from the early to mid-80's say since an American won Boston - YES. In fact every time I try to give somebody a pass, I think about it for a few seconds and say yes - No BR since probably '82.
