Not saying that he will win. Only saying that he finished 10th last year and is in much better form this year. Barring injury he is a top 5 candidate for sure and perhaps top 3.

Nowhere did I imply that he would win. Just that anyone making up some crap about how his time sucks isn't paying attention. Holtschulte ran 15 seconds slower, then got injured, then won nationals. Of course no one is going to beat Peter Kosgei.
one never knows till one runs the race, Peter looks outstanding and is quite formidable, but what if he gets bronchitis, or sprains an ankle or simply gets beat...it happens...I think he will win myself, but one never knows..
Johnson is also a junior.The meet at Oberlin should be good as Scherer, Johnson and Paulsen from Johns Hopkins will be squaring off.

Franklin Park rarely is as fast as people say it is. It is worlds slower than Paul Short and many of the other tracks in the midwest. There are 2 pretty significant hills on the course. Furthermore, this past weekend the course was soft and wet, definitely not conducive to fast times. I'd say it was at least 15 seconds slower than normal.
agree. I don't know why it has a reputation for being so fast. maybe it's just because the races there are usually pretty competitive so there is more of a competitive pack. not only does it have those 2 legitimate hills it has a LOT of hard turns.
I wouldnt leave navarre,or schaffhouser out.
one reason it's called fast is because it's short. 7950 meters approx. so calling fp fast is kind of like saying one track where only the 1500m is run is a faster track than the one where only the mile is run. Only after accounting for the differences in length can we actually compare the speed of the course.

Ya, mostly juniors and seniors competing for those top spots. Last year for the women there were 8 sophs and 1 freshman AAs, and for the men only 3 sophs and no freshmen. As for this year, Wilhelmy for the men is looking good, and as you said, O'Grady and Childs-Walker for the women, as well as Jenna Hulton from St. Lawrence, also a soph. Not really seeing any standout freshmen women.
New rankings out, with Williams tumbling 9 spots to 13th, just ahead of So. Maine (now 14th). The other big mover was Augustana, whose rose 9 spots to #9.

To me, the top 2 look like the only teams with a realistic shot of winning the title. After them, the next 4 look really strong, and I find it hard to imagine any of them finishing lower than, say 8th, at nationals so long as they stay healthy.
Then I think there are a dozen or so teams that could finish 4th or 5th if any of the top 6 teams stumble on (or get injured before) Nationals race day.
Rowan's number one girl is a frosh and has been running well. I think she ran finished in the top 10 at Paul Short in the brown race and won Desales. Probably won't be AA this year, but she's certainly got potential.
True, both ran well at 2008 Nats. (referring to older timer's post about Navarre and Schaffhouser)
As for the new Women's Top 10 just released today - biggest drop was Wash U from #3 to #10. Not sure what warranted that drop seeing as they didn't even run their top group this past weekend, but whatever. Here's this week's top 10 for women, and where they're at this weekend:

Linda Keller a freshman from Minnesota Morris beat Jenny Scherer at Roy Griak.
Here are the women's results from the UW-O meet today...It was about 40 degrees at the start with a slight breeze. The top five women ran in a pack until about 2.5 miles, then Mitchell started to pull away and things just spread out from there.

The men's race was all Greeno from about half way to the finish and NCC ran at the front the whole race for the team win (8 in the top 15 all under 25).

That would be good news for the NYU men, who just edged Allegheny while winning today at Oberlin! I seriously doubt the Violets are in contention FTW, but perhaps they could have an outside shot at a podium finish.
